Tomorrow is finally a vacation day for me.

I've been looking forward to this for a long time. I'm taking a bus trip to the Chicago Flower Show. Granted it will be a long day but I can't wait.
I have my spending money all ready and book to read on the bus trip (4 hrs!!)

My office only allows a very small amount of people off at the same time as we only have 12 people. "Got to have coverage" Depending on job function-"heaven forbid" having 2 people off-someone else could call in sick OMG!!

There has never been a problem with the work not getting done.
Enough of that nonsense.
But in October the 6 of us ladies who cover each others positions and are not moving when my office relocates are GOING TO VEGAS TOGETHER

That will be some time-you know the saying - "what happens in Vegas, says in Vegas!!"
But this day come first!!!

How do you companies handle vacation requests??? DO you have to ask time off in advance or can you take off whenever????

At the kitty's beck and call
Well, I have to cover my teaching time otherwise there'd be 250 students and....no me
but then again, that might be a blessing!

Other than that we can book time as we wish - in theory we can take all our 6 weeks at one time; however with all our admin responsibilities it's just not possible to identify a 6 week block of time.

Hope you have a great time at the Flower Show - it sounds fantastic. And as for your time in Vegas....I'm sure you'll have a vacation to remember - but then looking at your smilie, you may not remember all of it

Chicago welcomes you!
What part of Wisconsin are you from (I went to high school & college there)?

We have to make our schedule months in advance! I think we're working on May/June now!

From the sounds of it, you had better warn Vegas in advance of your arrival!

Have fun at the flower show! Anything in particular you are looking to buy?
About Vegas....wanna fit me in your luggage???

It's pretty easy for us to get a day off if we want. We work a lot of late nights, manning the phones for soldiers' families, so comp hours are always available. It's hard to go weeks and weeks and weeks without taking a day off for yourself every now and then!

Gail that is fantastic! I'm so jealous -- the Chicago Flower Show! It must be huge.

I can take any time I need but the catch is that my boss has to be gone. So my schedule is tied to hers. She travels alot and it usually works out. They really frown on sick days here, too, because we aren't cross-trained (nobody wants my job and to have to handle her anyway! LOL).

I'm not bringing my camera to chicago as its hard to get good pictures of the exhibits without someone's arm or head in the way!! This is the 3rd time I've gone. I'm looking for another tripod sprinkler like the one I bought last year. Some more seeds I need like a another hole in my head. But was a both from someplace in Missouri that sold really cool concrete stuff. Last yr I bought a concrete head to plant in. But it was very heavy and I had to leave it at the booth until I was ready to go down for the bus. Plus more dwarf conifers for my collection...... who knows what other goodies I'll find.
As for Vegas- one of my co-workers has never been there before, one person has been there twice, my parents usually winter there so I better start saving now!!

Oh how lovely! I hope you have a great time!!

I'm not exactly in the "professional" world yet but for the 2 jobs that I do have:
For aerobics it's highly frowned upon to ask for time off. They NEVER like to have to cancel a class so if you HAVE to miss sometime you have to make sure that you have a sub for your class lined up or else they get pretty peeved.

At the visitation center you can get time off fairly easily, but you have to know a full month in advance since the schedule comes one month ahead of time.

As for school, they don't give a crap if you're there or not, it's just your butt when you fail the test!

Anyway, have a great time!!!

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Have lots of fun, Gail, look forward to hearing all about it!
You will even have a nice relaxing bus ride with your book!
With my company, we must ask off a month in advance, and then they choose whether or not it is convenient for you to have your day.
