I've been a lazy girlfriend today

My boyfriend is taking the GRE right now (until 5pm EST) and I should have posted this request earlier this morning. If you have any spare vibes, can you please send some his way? He's been nervous about this test and wants very badly to start grad school in the fall, so this can make all the difference.
Thanks y'all

Plenty of good vibes for a successful test coming you bf's way.

What is the GRE exactly - it sounds like some sort of entry exam for postgraduate courses - is that right?

I hope he does ok

Thank you Beth

I can't tell you what the GRE stands for b/c I can't quite remember myself. But you are right, it is a test that some universities require you take before entering graduate school. He is taking the general one, which consists of math and writing/English sections. Hopefully he'll do well so he can get his Masters in Marine Ecology and make me some money!!!

How long does it take to get the results? That's the hard part!

Unfortunately, the GRE did not go so hot.
He did great on the math, but not so good on the English and now he has to retake it (keep in mind that it costs $115 a pop!). Oh my, the road to wealth is not cheap!
Katherine, I'm even more impressed with how well you did on the GRE!

well i was going to send vibes your way for this GRE, but I guess I will send even BETTER vibes for the next one!!
It must be hard taking a stadardized test years after taking the SATs. I am so glad I don't have to take the GRE's for my Masters Program.

Is the GREs like the SATs in that schools will combine your best scores from each section? Like if he does worse on the math next time but better in English they'll take the better math score and the better English score? Just curious.

Aww thank you Amy. I'm sorry to hear it didn't go so hot for him. Are you good at English? If you are you should help tutor him, I know Brendan is what made all the difference for me on the math section!! At least the second time he'll go in knowing what to expect and now he really knows what sections he needs to work on. Who knows, he could go in and increase his score by a couple hundred on this next one!! I'll be keeping my positive vibes for him going until he takes it again. I definitely feel for him as I understand the pressure and stress he's been feeling! I'm sorry I didn't get to this thread in time to send vibes BEFORE the test!!!

Beth - GRE stands for Graduate Record Exam.
In other words it's just something to make everyone attempting to further themselves through grad school crazy.

No, they don't combine the best scores unfortunately. I have a friend who took it 3 times because the first time she did great on English and poorly on math, the second time was the reverse, and FINALLY she did well on both sections the last time. They try to make it as difficult for you as possible.

Oh I'm sorry it didn't go so well for him. Lots of vibes for the next exam - let's hope he just flies through that one.

It seems so rough that you have to take another exam to get into a graduate program - surely your first degree should speak for itself. It does here.

I agree that it's a pretty stupid thing. Especially since the GRE (unless you do a specialty test geared toward your field) has NOTHING to do with most things people are going to grad school for. Like Amy's boyfriend, what does lots of random math and verbal questions have to do with marine studies?! And for me, how do those matter to psychology?! Frustrating if you ask me.

Sending lots of good vibes to your boyfriend. I know how stressful these exams can be. I was on pins and needles when I took the CPA exam to get certified. I hope his results are everything he wants them to be.
