Owie... Ear Infection

Never thought it could happen, but I gave myself swimmer's ear from taking a shower. Still can't figure out how it happened. That was Friday night, and when I woke up this morning (Sunday) I was still deaf in my right ear, so my mom drove me up to the hospital.

Merlin had two of these, on top of a torn eardrum, and he never once complained, or picked at his ear. He must be a saint or something! My ear hurts like crazy and is plugging up every other minute.

Only two more days of this before the medicine starts working.... Sigh...

How awful! I used to get ear infections alot as a child, know how very painful they are, you must be just miserable.
I would certainly hope your medicine will be effective before two days. Please remember, though, even if your ear feels better, continue taking your medicine for the full course as prescribed by your Dr.

Awww how awful, I hate it when that happens and I know what you mean about the pain. What sometimes used to help me was to get a hot water bottle put hot water in it then ciover it with something so you don't burn yourself and put your ear on it for a while. I used to find that helps alot. And if its both ears take it in turns, you might want to try it!

Hope you feel better soon and the pain goes away

I was going to make the same suggestion. I usually found it helped more to put the heat right in front of the ear since thats the way the ear canal goes.

I developed water in my ear after shampooing in the shower. It took a day to develop, but D*MN, it hurts!

Ouchie, ear infections are the WORST!
My only advice is to be careful driving. Ear problems can mess up your equilibrium. Other than that, please get well soon!

I'm sorry about your ear infection.
I got those at least two or three times a year when I was a kid and I would be literally squirming around on the bed or sofa because it hurt so blasted much, so I really know how miserable it makes you feel right now. I sure hope you get some relief really quickly and begin to feel better.

Thank you all!

I think because it's a combo of wax and infection, but putting a warm compress or hot water bottle anywhere near that ear makes it feel like my head is going to explode.

I did check ingredient listings last night on ear cleaning solutions, and, surprise-surprise, it's the same exact formula as the ear cleaning stuff I have left over from Merlin's ear infection.. so... heh.... I kinda used that and got a lot more gunk out. They had flushed my ear at the hospital, but I guess that just loosened the stuff up in the back. I can FINALLY hear out of that ear again! Still a little dizzy, but I can live with that.

This is my first ear problem since I was two. I had been having constant ear infections up to that point, when the pediatrician realized that it was an allergic reaction to our Pomeranian. Once mom found a new home for Padumeus, I haven't had once since... I'm hoping this one is just from the shower, and not because of an allergic reaction to the new cat.

Yuck! No fun at all! Like Stephanie I used to get them all of the time as a kid so I know how you must be feeling. They are SO unpleasant. I'll be sending lots of positive get well vibes your way!
