Well, I took the camera with me when I went into town this morning to church. There were a couple of shots I particularly wanted to get. It would have been better if I could have done it when I arrived, but I was running late, so I missed the best light. However, it was still pretty nice just after noon...

This is one of my favourite trees. It's just outside the church, and is glorious every year. This shot would have been better earlier, but [sigh] it's still not bad...

...and a closeup of the blossoms...

...and across the street is a Skytrain station. You'd never know it, behind those trees...

...and on the way home, the Cambie boulevard...

...and a wider view, not just blossoms...

...and, a slight detour to stop at the park, just behind us. This clump of trees on the corner is another of my favourites...

...and again a closeup of the blossoms...

...and that corner in context. Just behind those houses you'll see toward the right hand side of the picture, behind the green house, two trees sticking up. They are deodar cedars, tall and lovely, and they are right in front of our house -- the point of that description being the proximity to the park...

I love this time of year. Hope you enjoy the loveliness.

I wonder if they'd thrive in South Louisiana? (Probaby not)
Many of the flowering trees in Vancouver are cherries. There are a good many plums as well. I'm never entirely sure which ones are which, though I think it's true that the paler blossoms are cherries, and the darker ones are plums. Most of those haven't bloomed yet. The one outside the church could almost be mistaken for apple, it's so pale -- almost white -- but it's quite old.

My guess is that they wouldn't have any trouble at all in South Louisiana. Coastal British Columbia is very mild, especially here on the South Coast. We are USDA hardiness zone 8.

Glad you like "my" trees

YIPPPEEEEEEEE!!!!!

I'm a zone "8" as well!!

I have 2 trees in my front yard that have died and I've been wanting to get rid of them and plant trees that blossom.

Do you know what time of the year is best to plant them?

I have no clue.....no green thumb here!! I have the black thumb of death for plants.

I'm going to try to research on the net, I really want to plantthe cherry trees in my yard!

I'm afraid I can't be much help on the gardening side. None of the trees in the photos are on our property, nor have we had occasion to plant ornamental trees. I'm just trying to think what time of year we normally see the city renewing the plantings of ornamentals (there are streets and streets lined with them, and they do die, of course, and need to be replaced), and I'm just not sure. Your local nurseries would probably be the best authority as far as that's concerned, because they will know not only the plant but the local conditions. Good luck in your search!

They all look so wonderful, Fran! It must be lovely to see in the morning, I can just imagine!

Catherine, you might want to also look at Winter Flowering Cherries - They flower through the winter into the beginning of Spring where you can have a spring one take over!

Good luck with finding out!

Oh what beautiful photos.

The roads around us are lined with flowering cherries - the buds are really starting to swell now and soon we'll have avenues full of cherry flowers. I love this time of year too.

It's so nice that you get to see such incredibly beautiful trees.

Thanks so much for that ray of sunshine.

I agree, I actually thought WOW, there really is spring in the air somewhere. As I look out my window, everything is still covered in a heavy blanket of white, like it has been now for the past few months. Not a single sign that spring is even close to being here, well, the sun is shining today. I haven't seen much of that either. It has been so cold, that the maple syrup season is having troubles. Normally, they would be making maple syrup out here by now, but they are still waiting. The temperature hasn't warmed enough to get the sap to start flowing in the trees.
