Has anyone else ever wanted a different surname (or first name for that matter?).

My surname is Yovich but I always thought that Sarah Yovich was a bit boring and that if I was going to be a popstar or actress or something (lol) that it would have to be a bit more interesting than that. I've always liked Kennedy as a surname (and no nothing to do with the family!!).

My partner, Max, changed his name by Deed Poll about a year ago from Gavin because he'd always been called Max and much preferred it.

Would you go that far to have a name you prefer or are you all pretty happy with yours?

And based on that, what are your nicknames?

I always wanted to be just a single name like Yanni or Bono, I'm thinking Enrique would be a good one, women love it.

Really? I think Rita is a fantastic name! I thought of naming a daughter Rita - if I ever have one. It's very Spanish and romantic...lol

I've never had a problem with my name. I've actually always really liked my first name and have pretty much always insisted that people say and spell out the whole thing, regardless of how long it is! So, in saying that, I've never had a nickname either. A few people will call me by different names but that's only because I let them. I find it frustrating when people see the name Katherine and automatically place a nickname on me, like I HAVE to have one or something. No way, my name is Katherine and that's what I expect to be! haha. I've always been weird about my name I guess.

My last name isn't very exciting, Katherine Peters, but it's a lot easier for people to pronounce and spell than what my last name would have been had our last name not been changed when my family first came over here: Peotrowski.

Hey! Nothing wrong with Sarah - it means Princess!! And how perfect that is...lol.

When I was little I wanted something `romantic' like Cordelia or Charlotte or something. My two dolls were called `Jessica Louise Antoinette' and `Sophie Charlotte Cordelia'!!!

My first name is one of the most boring biblical names out there, and is overused.

I'd LOVE to be named Eris (goddess of discord), becuase I've never met anyone named Eris, and I've never seen it in a baby name book.

Personally, if I ever had to completely change my name, I'd go with Jade Mitchell. Heck, that's who owns my computer, my software, and who is registered all over the net. It's already my avitar and secret identity, so why not make it reality.
I just love the way it sounds. Jade. Mitchell. Oooh.

Under the cats, mostly.
HAH! OH this is wonderful... you think your names are boring? Emma is probably the most dull name on the planet. My parents had no imagination - my little bro is called David. I've always hated my name... Emma Bryony Leanne I can handle. Actually, Emma has kinda grown on me.... but I always loved Inga as a name. If I ever have a daughter, her name will be Inga for sure
It's my surname I always had a problem with though. I HATE Pearce. But you know, I had both mine and my son's surnames changed by Deed Poll to Jansson - the name my family came to the UK with in 1891 - and with the extra s which was dropped by a Brit who couldn't spell! It's funny how such a small thing can make you feel good. It was very difficult for a while because my name was Pearce and my son's was Black.... it didn't feel like we were a proper family unit, so to speak. I was wierd.... Scots law states that you can call yourself whatever you like as long as those names are not used for fraudulent purposes. But now they've been changed legally - on paperwork - I'm certainly a lot happier and Alex is picking up on those good vibes. Home-life is improving no end
I am a Jansson.

I never really had a nickname... everyone calls me Em or Bunny. Mostly anything I was called in school was derogatory and hurtful. And I yelled at my parents to stop every time they called me Egg-peg - can you blame me?! It was cruel and unusual punishment.

Y'all should try MY surname. It rhymes with "Raccoon". My daughter Emily (who I call Emmy or EM) gets called Emily Coccoon at her school. Kids are really cruel!

I like my first name, Stephanie, spelled Stefanie on my birth certificate. I wouldn't change it, everyone calls me Steph or Steffi and it suits me just dandy.

I actually like my whole name, it flows quite nicely. I will say that I'm not too fond of my fiance's last name... such a shame.

Now when I was younger I didn't like my first name much - no one could spell it or pronounce it properly. I always wanted a first name that was a word, if that makes sense - like Hope or Faith or something like that.

It could be worse though... in my mother's family they tend to name their daughters after themselves (and add a -ita at the end). I could have been named Roxana, or Roxanita. Yeech!

My name is ok...but I didnt really like it because no one said it right or spelled it right. It's Diane Lynn. I get called Diana, it gets spelled Dianne. On and on and on...I like my first name...but I think I like Diana Leigh better...and my maiden name fit better than my married last name. Sheesh. I kept telling him to take my name!!

At the kitty's beck and call
I was never really too keen on my first name - besides there were five of us in my form at school and that got really confusing. It didn't really feel special either. But my middle name, now that's a different matter. Although it (Elizabeth) isn't really unusual, that name was given to me for a reason, it was my godmother's middle name. This woman is also my favourite aunt and was a real role model for me when I was growing up. So I'm known by my middle name or the shortened version of it that I prefer.

So all my friends, work colleagues, hubby and his family call me Beth. My Mother refuses to acknowledge the fact that I like to be called by my middle name though (even though she gave the name to me) and point blank refuses to use it

Mine is Francesca.
hardly anyone knows how to spell it properly unless they live in italy.
It sounds awkward when english speaking people say my name so my teachers started to shorten it to Fran. Then everybody started calling me Fran and i have to say i prefer it.
Every Daughter that is born in my dads family is called Francesca. Its quite irritating when youre there with the whole family noone knows who youre talking to!
Well i like the names Mellissa, Emily, and Jen. These are the names im going to call my girls

But my bf calls me fwan lol. I dont know why he picked it up..
I started nicknaming my self Fwan because when you hear little kids saying FRAN it sounds like FWANNNN.. lol i think its too cute

Try COX on for size! Our daughter got her fair share of teasing with that one.

Ari my cousin's daughter shares your name, and I think it's quite pretty.

Fran...there was actually a girl in my class growing up who was named Francesca, so I would've been able to spell it!
Plus I think it's a pretty name so I never forgot the spelling or pronunciation.

My name is starting to grow in popularity... there was a girl a few grades younger than me in elementary school that had my name.

And I went to high school with a girl named Francesca... her friends called her Frannie.
I think it's a beautiful name!

The annoying thing about this is that my husband is Dutch. Why couldn't he have had a Van something or other. Apparently somewhere in the 18th century, someone changed the name from Kochs to Cox.

I hated my name growing up, "Stevie", I thought it was a boy's name. I actually like it quite a lot now. I think it's unique. Except it's a little aggravating when everyone thinks that it is a nickname or a shortened version of Stephanie.??? It is actually my real name. My middle name is Lane. Weird, I know. Not Elaine or Alaine, just Lane. Stevie Lane sounds like a street name,,lol. I hate my last name very much,,,Puckett. Think of all the horrible things that rhymes with,,lol. I got teased so bad in Junior High.
