Forgive me, but I really do NOT know the answer to this and I asked Eric last night and he said it's because we brush Saba almost every day that she's losing her long coon fur and looking more and more like a regular tabby with shorter hair. But not comepltely short hair, but not nearly as long as before.... I'd say she's honestly lost 1-2" of her long strands. She just loves to be brushed and we get a good gob of fur each time which is great for upkeep on fleas and dander, but her long mane around her neck....that's noticeably shorter now as are the longer strands under her belly too. Is this normal? Do long-hairs lose their long strands in the Spring for Summer like shedding? She's doing great, no issues at all. I've just never had a long-hair....or started with a long-hair.
Thanks!

If this helps, I'm glad. I know with Vans, in the summer, they loose Thier long fluffies except on thier tail really, during the warmer seasons.. but keep thier tail fluffy always.. I'm ondering if her long coat is more of a winter coat, and if it'll come and go with seasons, Like a van.

in my experience yes!

Maverick was a long haired kitten but is now almost a short haired cat. she grew into her fur as we put it.

Denise and Maverick, thank you so much! I will say I'm just a bit relieved! She could indeed be shedding a very long winter coat, as she was a rescue from the wild, and it was a very cold Fall this year up here. Maybe, she too will grow into her little "adult fur". I will tell her!
