Hi everyone,
My cat Noodles has kidney disease and gets daily sub-cue fluids when we're back at home in GA. We're now here in Los Angeles (San Fernando/Van Nuys area) for a few months on assignment and am wondering if anyone can suggest any clinics, or vet techs who can help in giving fluids. My cat turns into a bear when I try to give him fluids on my own. I had planned on getting help from a family member while in town, but an unexpected death has thrown a wrench in the plans! If anyone has any suggestions please e-mail them to [email protected] if you don't mind. Thanks in advance!

Is it possible for the family member who lives in LA to recommend a local vet? You could call that vet's office and explain your situation. It takes two people to give my cat fluids, too. When my husband is unavailable, I call a vet tech from the local animal hospital. She makes a "housecall" and helps me give the fluids. I pay her a nominal fee for her time. Maybe one of the techs at a local animal hospital would be willing to do this for you as well.

If you can't get a recommendation, you'll have to "cold" call all the local vets to see if there's a tech who would do this. Since you're not a client, they may be reluctant unless you bring the cat in for an exam. Faxing her records to the vet would at least prevent having to do unnecessary bloodwork.

I think it would be too stressful for your cat to have to take him to a vet clinic every day for fluids, not to mention expensive. Hopefully you can find someone willing to make a housecall.
