Were you ever a Brownie or a Girl Scout?

I was a Brownie for 2 years and a Junior for 2 years. Somewhere, I still have a picture in my Brownie uniform. I'll have to dig it out and scan it.

I also still have my sash with my badges on it.

My daughter was in Scouts for exactly one year, and that I hated. The meetings were in the evening, and the Troop Nazi (what I called her) expected the mothers to stay, too. I kept thinking, what's the :censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor:' point? I don't want to be a Girl Scout. Thankfully, Allie only lasted that one year.

Heidi, my stepmother was the director of the Girl Scout Council of Bergen County, NJ! My dad didn't marry her until I was 19, however.

Yup, a Brownie, and then a Girl Guide -- way back in the Dark Ages! There was only one kind of cookie then -- just the original vanilla sandwich things -- I hated them, and I hated selling them. But it was only once a year, and I enjoyed pretty much everything else. Earned some badges, but not a whole lot.

Back in the day.... I was a Girl Scout and I even went to Girl Scout camp and I even sold cookies and all that.... I had an edge because my mother worked at Amtrak and she got her co-workers to buy all of the cookies I was selling

You want to see something hilarious?

The caption is the funniest part...yeah, I'm sure that's how they dress in Japan for a meeting...uh huh.
We were all a bunch of Army brats (we lived in New Mexico at the time, "WSMR" stand for White Sands Missile Range), so those lucky girls who got to actually live in Japan got to wear the "cool" clothes...the rest of us schmucks had to wear our uniforms. Although, on further inspection, I think the girl on the right is wearing Vietnamese clothing (it was during the war, and most of our dads were stationed there at one time or another). God, I'm such a geek for still having that clipping...I also still have my brownie watch, my brownie handbook, and my brownie pin!

I was a girlscout briefly.. I was to sell cookies but I said that it was shameless solicitation and I would not be a part of it.. The troop leader was very very PO'd and told my mom who bought like 100 boxes herself to smooth things over. I was a weird kid .. But now i love girlscout cookies..

I was a Brownie for a year or two. When my dad got transferred to a new base (Navy) I dropped it. But I still love the cookies!

I was a girl scout for one year in seventh grade but it just wasn't my thing. We camped with a boy scout troop, since my troop leader's husband was a boy scout troop leader and I thought that the things the boy scouts did were more fun. I love the cookies, though. Thin mints rule.

I was a girl scout when I was six, and I loved it.....until I moved...when I went to Junior's, my new troop was horrible!
They were awful to us, so I quit.

I guess I grew up in too urban an area of Los Angeles with hippy-ish parents. I thought Girl Scouts were mythological creatures from the 50's. Cub scouts too. Seriously.

I was a Brownie and then a Girl Scout. I hated selling cookies, though. I was too shy. But now that I don't have to sell them anymore, I love eating them! Thin Mints and Samoas are my favorite.

I remember the "Make new friends" song, as well as:
There's something in my pocket
It belongs across my face
I keep it very close to me in the most convenient place
I know you'll never guess it
If you guess a long, long while,
So I'll take it out and put it on,
It's a great big Brownie smile!

As soon as I saw it I started singing it in my head!

Now, who remembers the Pledge?

On my honor
I will try
To serve God, my country and mankind
And to live by the Girl Scout Law

OK, I think some of the words have changed since I memorized it...but it's close.
