Have any of you used alternative items in place of the typical plastic litter box? I'm very interested in discovering a more attractive way, that both my cat and I can live with, of holding the litter. So far some of my ideas have been... a large galvanized tub or a large enamelware pan. Will these two ideas be too slippery? http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/new...newthread&f=6#

If your cats are ok with covered litterboxes, petsmart.com has a few wicker litter box covers that are a little more stylish than the usual plastic ones. Also places like brookstone and frontgate have similar models.
You could even have someone build you a wooden litterbox cover that matches the stain of the wood of your furniture or floors, if you were feeling up to it!
Happy hunting!

Not sure if it is more *attractive*, but for my 3 I use a rubbermaid "Under the Bed Box". Its one of those clear plastic shallow boxes, meant for storing sweaters & stuff under your bed. It holds lots of litter and is plenty of capacity for 3 kitties.

That is generally what 3 of my litter box covers look like. They are wooden boxes with a round opening on one side, the hinged door is on the top, and they are covered with carpet.

I have windows that come near the floor and I have them placed under the windows. It serves as a window perch used by both my dogs and cats, extra seating for visitors, and hides the boxes. Nice enough that there are 2 of them in my rec room and one in the guest room.
