I am thinking of entering one of the photo contests at this photography website that I go to frequently for help on improving my pictures. Every month, they have a "set subject" competition where they tell you what to photograph. You can get as creative as you like, as long as you stay within the subject.

This month, the set subject is "a scene through a window" so I took a few pictures of my furbabies looking out of the window to see if I could get anything worth entering. I've never entered any of their competitions, so I'm really hesitant. But I figure....what's the worst that could happen? Plus, I'll never know if I don't try.

These are the three pictures that I like. Vote for the one that you think I should enter in the competition. Thanks everyone!

PICTURE #1

PICTURE #2

PICTURE #3

Yeah I like that one too....but I'm really torn between #1 and #3. I like the fact that all three kitties are looking in the same direction in #3 and the photo is a little clearer. I guess I'll wait and see what everyone else thinks.

At the kitty's beck and call
Robin

I love photo number 1 - that paw is just asking to be touched! Although the seat they are sitting on almost disappears and to some extent they look like they are "floating" or cut and pasted - even though I know they weren't
I'm probably not making sense here.

Photo number 2 is lovely - but one of your kitties is being a bit of a maverick and looking elsewhere. The other two are clearly looking at you - so lovely as it is, it seems a bit "staged".

Photo number 3 would be my favourite for entry to a competition. Something has clearly caught their attention. It doesn't look staged at all. It looks like you have crept up on them at the window and captured them. It's also a powerful image because (for me at least) it makes me wonder what on earth they could be looking at.

I loved them all - so please don't think I'm criticising the photos, I'm not. But for the comp - I'd say number 3.

Good luck. Even if you don't win this time, the photos you post are stunning and you are bound to be successful!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Those are all nice photos, but I voted for number one because you can see the street and some grass in the reflection more clearly than the other photos.

Thanks a lot Beth. Don't worry about me thinking you're criticizing.....I WANT the feedback. I'm leaning more toward #3 myself because of all the things you said....plus I think it's just clearer and is more interesting to look at.

Well I happen to love them ALL just because they are pictures of my babies and that's what I like to photograph best! But I have to think in terms of what the judges will think is a good photo in terms of composition, clarity, and exposure.

They are all lovely photos, Robin, and I'm having a hard time choosing. #2 is a lovely photo, but I think the "unanimity" of either #1 or #3 give them the edge. #3 is marginally clearer, and I like their unanimous focus on [whatever]. But there's something that's operating at gut level for me in #1 -- maybe the softer focus, maybe the paw hanging down, maybe the eyes riveted on the photographer -- maybe a combination of those. I think #1 wins, by a whisker.

#3 because of their interest in 'something'. Maybe the 'catwoman' down the street?

Or maybe the cat woman standing in the yard taking their picture!

All of your pictures are great. I'm inspired to take more of my babies!!

I do like #1 the best. I think it's the most candid of the bunch. The kitties are so natural! Also, I really loved the reflection in this one. This picture just seems to offer so much.

You have a good eye! Good luck!!

All three are great! But I picked #2 because I just love the expression on Cooper's face!

I loved all of them but I especially liked number 3. I am in love with that grey? cat that is so intent with what caught their interest. There is nothing like a little kitty TV.

Good luck! I love the idea of photo contests, and hope to hear you've won or placed well!

(I pushed dh to enter the Smithsonian photo contest in 2004...just hoping he'll get an honorable mention, it's a huge contest, but I so love his photography. On pins and needles as they notify winners by the end of this month)

I voted for 1, because it's perfectly centered, and your eye just goes straight to the subject. It's a perfect photo. I think they're all beautiful, but 1 is perfect.
