The goal is to keep it below 5:1. Hope this makes sense!
Well, my HDL is 51, so I divided that into 196 and came up with 3.85. Is that good ???

That's great. I am a real fan of the walking now. I just got a year pass to the local reservoir cause the trail there is really lovely and I enjoy walking it (so more likely to keep it up)

I was just talking to a friend of mine about how too many people think if you aren't like gung ho and going to the gym everyday exercise is out, whereas it's best to do what you can when you can do it. And be consistent. Even if it's small stuff.

I don't know anything about cholesterol numbers, but 16 pounds sure sounds impressive.

I have a severely hypoactive thyroid, which often means a high cholesterol count. My doctor is always "amazed" at my very low cholesterol count, and finally decided that my eating habits are responsible - no lunch meat, and meat no more than 2 or 3 times a week (read 2 or 3 meals a week). I do eat cheese and eggs. My husband, who's thin, and has no thyroid problems, has high cholesterol, though he never eats more than half a chicken breast, a 2- ounce beef patty, or a thin slice of beef, and completely avoids eggs and butter. However, he eats lunch meat almost every day. He bikes 12 miles to and from work every day. I really think that heredity plays a big role - his mother has horrendous cholesterol values, although she maintains a vegan diet 6 days a week. I should be the one with problems, not he. I don't have an exercise regime, though I'm a walker. If I use the car once a month, that's a lot.

I agree - heredity does play a large part. I inherited high cholesterol from my father's side of the family. I rarely eat meat, and maintain a healthy diet and healthy weight. Hubby is the opposite eats everything I don't and his cholesterol level is so low it's in his boots
. His family has no history of cholesterol problems.

Heredity must play a part cause my parents died at the same age...and yet my Father ate horrible, smoked like a chimney and drank to boot. My Mother walked, ate well and didn't have any bad habits. But...I do know she enjoyed her life more than he did.
