We've been looking for property around our county and to even find a place under $325,00 is amazing. We found one last week under $300,000 and it sold 4 hrs before we got there. It was on the market for 4 days!!!!!
So how much do things cost where you are? Is it insane??
We're thinking about moving back to Utah, too.

SEATTLE & VICINITY:

HOUSE: within 50 miles of Seattle median: $343,000
GALLON OF GAS: $2.05
GALLON OF MILK: $4.02

It's a bit less south of you, but let me tell you...I have fantasies of selling our current home for what would be enough to buy acreage, outbuildings and a nice home back in NY!

I do see what they are selling on all the newly developed areas near us, for over 200,000 and these homes have no yards, are so close if there were a window, you could open it, lean out and touch your neighbor's house.

My little Cape Cod with detached garage and good amount of property that I could barely give away for $65,000 back in the late 1990's(despite cobblestone walks, newly refinished hardwood floors, basement with pantry, refinished attic) would have gone for over $100,000 out here in this county, and nearer to Seattle proper, would be over $200,000 we estimate.

It's just nuts, isn't it!

We bought your place over ten years ago for $33,500 it was recently appraised at $135,000 and we aren't finished remodeling yet! Yes we have done some improvements, but mostly it is the acreage that has the most value-

House prices are outrageous. There are some empty lots down the street from us that are being sold for $500,000. The funny thing is that when my grandparents bought their house they only paid $4,000 and now just the land is worth close to a million dollars.

oh! and let me tell you-- they're plowing down ALL of Maple Valley and no wonder the coyotes are coming in....as well as the bears and a cougar. We hear the cement mixers and bulldozers Mon-Sat now, now break, even late at night with the big spotlights, it's awful. Pat, your home could easily fetch $400-500,000 in Seattle proper. We looked at tiny, cramped 2 bedroom homes with no garage and barely working bathroom in such disrepair, and those prices were over $290k. There's a house down the way from us and it's for sale...it's been a rental for some time and they're asking over $300k and the place looks like a meth lab.

The price of a home here in So Ca is way out of hand, we bought a new one 4 yrs ago 2344 sq ft, 3 bdr, 2.5 bath , formal dining, formal front room, family room down stairs large bonus room upstairs and the master bdr is very large, kitchen is very large, when we bought it we paid $165,000 granted this is a track home and its now worth around $500,000, it's stupied, my hubby said lets sell it, and I said what then go buy the same house for $500,000 lol, gas is $2.15 a gallon, milk forget it, everything is so high I can't beleive I used to buy groceries for $40.00 a week now it's $40 a bag, doesn't matter whats in that bag either lol.I remember when coffee was .49 cents a pound, bacon was that, also bread 3 loafs for $1.00, and no that wasn't the stage coach days but close, I just can't imagne where it goes from here, I feel for my Grandkids just think what they are going to have to earn in order to get by,,,

I must have gotten pretty old during all the prices going up lol

sashacat421, I understand how you feel. I actually grew up not too far from where you live now and the prices really are going up in western WA. My in-laws home has nearly doubled in value.

Don't know if this will make you feel any better, but homes in San Diego are so outrageous that we are considering moving back up to the NW. The median home price in San Diego County is nearly $600,000. My friends recently sold their 2-bd, 2-ba CONDO here for $500,000. Gas prices are currently $2.35. Talk about insane!

My mom's home is on an island here in Savannah. When my parents bought the house in 1988, the bought it for around 90K. It was appraised 2 years ago at just over $200,000. It's doubled it's value because the island has grown so much (residentially) but none of the new homes are as well-builty as the all-brick homes (like hers) that were built in the 1970s.
On a side note, my boyfriend's father is a contractor and recently finished building the most expensive home in Savannah. It would sell for about $14 mil.
A gallon of gas here is $1.95 and a gallon of milk....I don't know b/c I never buy it in gallons, but a half gallon is about $1.50.

Here in Atlanta just up the road from Savannah we are enjoying a brief gas respite - I filled up at 1.79 yesterday but we are averaging around 1.95 to 1.89. Half gallonof milk is $1:50 - gallon is $2.79. Our 1900 sq foot home in the south (read 'less desirable') of Atlanta was purchased 2 years ago for $158,000 - one of the lower prices in this neighbourhood. All of the new homes being constructed now are starting around $250,000 although they are also bigger - around 2300 sq ft. If you are willing to live in the country, though, instead of one of the 'built communities' like this one, you can still get a very decent home in good condition for around $100,000. The biggest problem here is traffic - Atlanta might be only 22 miles north of us but with the volume of traffic on I-75 it takes at least an hour, sometimes 1 1/2 hours to drive to and from work each day. It is much worse - and much more expensive - on the north end (read 'preferred') of the city. Still, it is lovely here, and I love it!

I think you need to move to WISCONSIN!!!!!! (you know the dairy state) Gas today $2.04. Milk is about the same. Our 1900 sq ft home on 3 acres bought in 1987 for $87,500. With the new fancy detached garage, my potting shed and we have redone our house-we could sell for about $240-$250. Lots of homes (new ones) are about $200,000 this metro areas more rural and older are much less. My 11 mile commute takes about 22 minutes. Chicago about 3 1/2 hrs away-Minneapolis about 6 hrs.
So think about this!

Don't you bet we haven't! We're looking at southern Oregon (Medford/Ashland area) and Utah, if Eric can get on a police force there, he's from Utah, so maybe so next year or two. I think Wisconsin is a gorgeous place, Gail. I've been through in the summertime and it was very pretty.

for $325 around here you can get a top of the line practically a mansion house with property. Most nice normal houses are around $70-$150 max, but then you have to take into acct the lack of jobs and the low low incomes that even GOOD jobs pay.. Crappy houses you can get for like $30-$40 thousand, but even those you can fix up to be decent.
