I took my Kirim (female) to the vet yeterday because I noticed that she was going to her litter box too often, like three times in a half hour.
The vet told me she had no fever and her bladder was OK a sign that she was not retaining urine, but that it could be a case of a sistitis (I don't know if I spelled it correctly). Put her on antibitic and prednisone and a special diet.
I think she is doing better today, but she is sooooooo scared. She is not used to being out of the house and she has been acting funny. She smells the floor where her craddle was sitting and wants to be out of sight, like under my bed or under the covers of my bed.
Is this normal? I am worry to death

What they are treating her for is probably cystitis (that's how it's spelled, so you can do some research, if you want), which is an inflammed bladder. My cat, Willow, was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis, meaning they don't know the cause. Sometimes it can be caused by stress or not drinking enough water. Did your vet do a urinalysis? Some cats get crystals in their urine that can cause irritation. If that is the case, they often need a special food to dissolve the crystals. Since you said your kitty was not retaining urine, it sounds like she wasn't blocked. Some kitties with crystals get a blockage (more common in males, but it can happen to females too) that can be life-threatening.

If they didn't do a urinalysis, they probably should. You could call your vet and ask. Sometimes they will have you bring the cat in for a urine sample, and sometimes they will have you collect it yourself. Antibiotics are often given to cats with cystitis. Sometimes they help, and sometimes they don't. Often the problem can clear up on it's own. It also sounds like Kirim was scared by the vet visit. If she is normally a cuddlely cat, you might try talking to her in a soothing voice, and seeing if she will come out to be petted.

Finally, cats with urinary problems are often in pain. Sometimes they will think that since the pain happens when they use the litterbox, the litterbox is bad. You might want to get a second litter box and put it in a different location, so that she has something that she doesn't associate with the pain.

She feels safe hiding. After all you can't scoop her up and stick her in a box and take her to that place again! Plus when cats don't feel good, they hide instinctively. You can give her an alternate hiding place, but taking a cardboard box, flipping it on it's side piling it high with bedding and draping a towel over it. Put it in a dark room and just let her relax and sleep. If she stops eating or drinking or she is straining to use the litter pan get her to the vet quickly-

my concern is that they ought to also do a blood panel, because often ina all animals excessive urination is a sign of diabetes. i know this is rare, but it can occur, and to fix that it simply usually only needs a specia diet, or switching mainly to the lower carb diet of a wet food. This is something I would be concerned with.

I had to take Kirim last night to an emergency animal clinic. When I got home from work she was a her litter box, crying and the litter was dry.
There they took a blood sample, I should know the results today after 7 P.M., they gave her a shot of Lasix which is a diuretic, a shot of Baytrill for a bacterial infection and fluids (she was dehydrated and running a tempeature).
After 2 hours I was able to take her home with a new prescription of an antibiotic called Augmentin and with two big balls on her body from the fluid which the doctor told me her body will absorb little by little.
As soon as we got home she went to the litter box and did it!!! My God I was so happy. She went 3 more times during the nite (needless to say I did not sleep last night), but she is doing much better. THis morning her body was back to normal (no big balls any more on her side). The doctorrecommended Hill prescription diet c/d dry food for her from now on, which I already bought and can't wait to get home to try it and see if she likes it.
My husband had to go to work, but I have my mother at home with her and she is sleeping, which is the norm for her during the day.
I am just praying now that the blood work comes back normal. I would not know what to do without my Kirim.
Thank you for all your help and support

Thank you. Someone at work yesterday was giving me the same idea and I'm going to buy one even though she is much better and this morning finally she went #2 which she had not done for 2 days, probably because she was not eating as usual

Yes, I did last night the doctor called me and she said that the kidneys are OK which was her main concern. That there is a little bit of inflamation of the pancreas and she recommended I take her in again for more fluids. She said it was minor but that I should take care of it, and you bet I will.
Thank you
