The word is that I'm just about to slide Pirates into the Xbox.
I think I'll watch We Were Soldiers tomorrow.

NYC The Town so Nice, They Named it Twice!
Okay, here's my pick for a future viewing. "Capturing the Friedmans" it was nominated last year for best documentary. It's a story about a family in Great Neck, NY that got caught up in a huge sex scandal in the 1980s, If you like true crime, mysteries, and stories about dysfunctional families this is for you. I saw it 5 times in the movies and did a term paper on it last semester. I was/am obsessed. I own it now, it is just mesmerizing film making.

We'll all have fun with this!
I'm at work tonight, so probably won't be watching a movie, but really look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts! Yippee, we have a movie club~unofficially, of course!

Oh Brian, you are VERY right about Momento. That movie is so inventive!
I give it 2 thumbs and all of Eponine's paws up!

Okay, I finished watching Pirates of the Caribbean early this morning. I was enjoying the movie last night, but I was too tired. Long story; lately I slipped into burning the midnight oil, working until well past dawn, but recently I began to pull the reigns in again, which means a few days of trying to stretch awake hours even more to reset the clock. Last night I ended up going to bed at 23:00 and woke up at around 06:30 this morning, which is a little more normal.

Anyway, I finished watching the movie and really enjoyed it. It was silly in a lot of places, but didn't get overly slapstick. I guess it would be fitting as swashbuckling entertainment.
Johnny Dep did an excellent job. I really got a kick when he was slapped almost every time he met a woman. You know you're loved when that happens.
I also liked the part at the beginning where Johnny Dep is standing on the very top of his mast while his boat sinks just in time for him to simply step onto the dock as his boat comes in to shore. Silly stuff.

I absolutely loved the effects on the undead pirates. They were flawless. After seeing the first sequence where they showed that, I was thinking, "Okay, that was awesome. I bet that's all we'll see of that kind of work for the rest of the film," but no, they kept using it later in the film and flawlessly too. I loved it! It must have cost them an entire lifetime of pirates' plunder to afford that! -And how about all the "bad teeth" make up? Wow! I feel like brushing my teeth now!

It's a seven day rental, so I'll definitely be watching it in the background while I work and I'll definitely be sitting down to watch the bonus features in full detail. I loved the music too! It's obvious that Hans Zimmer wrote it. I think the last movie I heard his music in was Gladiator, (one of my all time favs) but I could recognize his style.

Okay, so it's quiz time! (Yes there's a quiz!
)

1. How many times was Captain Jack slapped during the movie?
2. How many pieces of gold did the pirates need to collect in order to break the curse?
3. How many holes were there in the sails of The Black Pearl?

So, what does everyone else like about this movie?

Ack, quiz! Oh geez, I didn't take notes when I watched this movie...
1. 3?
2. 882, I think?
3. What did you count them? Um, 5?

Oh and I loved Johnny Depp, he played my favorite character (besides the fabulous Keira Knightly, of course). Every line he said just made me crack up!

1. 3? Nope. Anamaria slapped him twice, so it was four

2. 882, I think? You are absolutely correct!
3. What did you count them? Um, 5? There were exactly 3017 holes altogether. (Just kidding!)
Okay three more questions just for the heck of it:

4. Why did Mr. Gibbs (the guy Captain Jack got to recruit a crew for him) get two pails of water thrown on him?
5. What did Captain Barbossa plan on doing upon lifting the curse?
6. What was the legend of how Captain Jack escaped the first time he was marooned on an island?

We were actually lucky enough to score sneak preview tickets to this movie and saw it before it hit theaters. We were expecting and cheesy Disney flick, and boy were we wrong!! Love it love it love it!!

4. Once to wake him up, and once for the stench.
5. I believe he was going to go into town to enjoy food and wine and other bodily delights.
6. Jack made a raft and strapped it to sea turtles with human hair and rode the raft back to civilization.

What's next week's movie? I think it's a cool idea to have a movie of the week, and then we can all discuss it afterwards.
