Action to protect Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Thread Starter

I am not sure where people stand politically, however, this is an issue that transcends party lines. The Defenders of Wildlife sent me this notice and I am sharing it with you so those who are interested can respond.

Your action is needed immediately to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from drilling. Congressional leaders have announced plans to try to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil development by sneaking a measure into the upcoming budget.

Both the Senate and the House will be voting on the budget within the next two weeks, so please take one minute right now to send your Senators and Representative a message, urging them to vote against ANY budget measure that would allow oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge:

Pro-drilling advocates in Congress plan to use the underhanded tactic of sneaking measures into the budget to open the door for drilling in the Refuge. This is an unacceptable sneak attack on our precious wildlife.

Through the actions of people just like you, we can send a powerful message to Congress that we reject this abuse of the budget process, and they must too. After sending your message to your Senators and Representative, make sure to encourage your friends and family to do the same.

Drilling in the Refuge is not a path to America's energy independence or lower prices at the pump. The United States Geological Survey estimates that the Refuge has less than a single year's supply of oil that would not reach the market for at least 10 years. Meanwhile, the harm to wildlife and to our greatest wildlife refuge would be irreparable. Please take action now to save this national treasure:

Thank you for all that you do,

Robert Dewey
Vice President, Government Relations and External Affairs

That's part of the reason I didn't vote for Bush!!!! It's a reserve for a reason!!!

They keep trying to take this away, it isn't just Bush, it has been other Presidents as well. When we lived in Alaska we were very proactive to keep this protected as well as the Permanent Funds that the politicians wanted to control. It is a hot button issue, and we as the citizens of this earth should do everything we can to keep it protected. Besides if they did finally succeed in opening it up for drilling, it would be years and years before anything would come of it. I just hope the people are stronger than the greed behind this motivation-

Second that - it's a bi-partisan pawn regardless. And I hopeit never comes to pass!!
