Hi all,

I have a favor to ask of any members in the Cleveland, Ohio area (specifically, Willoughby, but anywhere relatively nearby is fine). Here's the deal: My mother's 82nd birthday is coming up in mid-April. Here's what we would like to do for her. My mother has had cats almost her entire life. My father died in 2001 and their 2 cats followed him a few months later. My mother moved to an apartment that does not allow cats. I don't believe she has even pet a cat or had one on her lap since then, and she sorely misses them. For her birthday, we would like to take her someplace where she can be around cats--pet cats, have them on her lap, have them around her--for perhaps an hour or less. I'm a bit at a loss for how to find such a place. Shelters can be depressing, particularly if the cats are in line for euthanasia--this is not the birthday gift I have in mind for her. What about either a no-kill shelter or a cattery? Please help (I'm in Florida--hard to do from here!)--does anyone have any ideas of where I could take her for a home-like environment where she could pet cats?

Thank you in advance if you have any thoughts on this.

Peggy

Wow, Peggy, what an awesome idea! I think that a no-kill shelter or a foster home would be just the ticket! You could find a animal rescue agency via the Petfinders.com and send them an e-mail (when you click on an animal's pic, all that info. comes up). I'm sure that they would hook you right up! Maybe you will be able to find a foster home that has some kittens on hand. OH, I am so excited for your mom. If I am ever in that situation, I hope someone will take me for a cat-visit!
Please let us know what you find out! Susan

Hi, psherman (Wallaby Lane?)! I grew up in Painesville, and my parents still live there. The ARC (Animal Rescue Center) is a no kill shelter, and it brings some of their animals to the Pet Supplies Plus in Points East shopping center in Mentor (where Tony Roma's is, right by 306) on Sundays. Though not exactly what you were looking for, it's close to Willoughby, so no long drives. You might be able to talk to someone there and let them know what you'd like to do for your mom - it can never hurt to ask!

If I was stll up there, I'd bring Jameson and Bast by - they love the pettin's!

Thanks to all of you for responding! I think I will call ARC this afternoon to see if we can work something out. If not, petfinders is also a possibility.

You have been a huge help, thanks again!

It took me awhile to figure out the Wallaby Lane reference! I don't have any kids and just recently saw Nemo for the first time. Needless to say, I got a kick out of the P. Sherman! That's me!
