My friend got her kitty when he was 6 weeks old, he is now 7 months old and sucks the end of his tail.. She tries to get him to stop and pulls his tail out of his mouth constantly
But he continues to do it. She knows he was taken away from his mother too early but she needs help getting him to stop sucking his tail. Is there anything she can put on it to get him to stop????

The vet said not to put anything on it but he will not stop sucking.... She really needs some good advice. Thanks for your help

If she doesn't stop him now he can suck all the hair off his tail and it will become infected.
Have her take and make a small cloth bag not very large, big enough that a spool of thread could fit inside. But don't put anything in it. Gather it up and tie it, then dunk it into a solution of warm water and a tiny bit of sugar. Soak the bag well, then give it to kitty instead of the tail-

Another option is to buy a snugglekittie, kittens can nurse off of these stuffed animals quite easily-

Good luck!

My little cat Daisy has got hooked on an old shirt of mine, and pummels/sucks on the fabric of that. She chose it, luckily it wasn't a particular favourite of mine. I'm interested to read that yours was weaned too soon, as that is what I suspect happened to Daisy.

A good friend's cat also sucks the tip of her tail. Casey is solid black, lithe and slender; her Mom is an artist, and the tip of Casey's tail always looks like one of her mother's paint brushes. She does it when she is content and purring just before she goes to sleep. Casey is several years old and has done this from the time she was a kitten.

My baby is 5 months old--calico. I believe she was taken away from her mother too soon. She started sucking on a blanket and kneeding it which was fine. Now she has started to suck her tail !! Looks like a paint brush tip all wet. She makes sucking noises when she does this ! My vet doesn't know answer to getting her to stop. Any suggestions? What is a snugglekittie? I'm off to the pet store tomorrow !!!!! HELP!
