How do your cats use their "psychology skills"? My 6 mo. old, JC, has been patiently observing the others in the home & has developed some interesting games as a result -
"INVISI-CAT" - With the hens, who love to chase & peck the cats, he approaches them & when they run at him, he sits motionless, staring through them. For a few minutes, confused, they will make threatening noises - he remains "invisible". they give up and begin pecking at the ground. Then JC stealthily walks among them, unnoticed. After the first sucessful pass, he walks back through them proudly, tail up, usually with the same result. If he IS noticed, he simply sits down and turns back into "invisi-cat" and waits until he can safely stroll among the flock. He does this for over 1/2 hour until he decides to hunt more mischief, and gets brought back inside.

"LIGHT CINDER'S FUSE" - with Cinders, our jet black first cat, JC simply follows her around. At first, she tries to ignore him. Then she will leave, but he follows. She growls, then hisses; JC just stares through her. Finally, she lashes out at him, he just cringes. She runs off, he follows. He will do this until I distract him with a game or scold, "Hey, leave her be!" whereupon, he comes up to be petted, acting as innocent as can be. If I pick up Cinders to comfort her, JC just stares at her while she growls in my arms, till she finally jumps down, for the cycle to continue until he gets bored and goes off for a nap or something more fun to do turns up. [COLOR]

WATCH 'EM JUMP" - The plumbers have had to rip up the flooring in the kitchen and dining room, leaving trenches among the exposed floor beams, but covering most of it with pieces of plywood. One of the plywoods is slightly warped and when JC jumps onto it just right, it makes the most delightfully startling, very loud racket. JC times his move so that the victim's back is turned and is still near the plywood. Then, BAMMM!!! He's made me drop eggs; startled (repeatedly) every member in the household, person & pet alike, including Icy, who last night, recovered from her fright enough to give him a good boxing. It didn't work, though, he got her again right after breakfast...

What goes on in your house? Susan

Malakai knows that I'm leaving for the day when I put my socks and shoes on so, when I sit down with my socks he'll lay on my sneakers and attack my feet as I'm putting on my socks...

mrsd, you make an interesting point. I haven't given it any thought, but JC does get alot of attention for his antics - like he's constantly playing for an audience, so , yeah, a clown is a good description. Lately, he's been studying the vacuum cleaner, he stalks it and lays down in the near vicinity, intently looking at it. I think he's mustering up the courage to do something with it. Oh, the thoughts that must be going on between those little ears....................

That is BRILLIANT!! He sounds like SUCH a little tease! What a fantastic personality to have in a little kitten. Your poor other babies, though, how annoying. I bet if they could cry out of frustration they would!

That reminds of of Trent's great victory. Like most cats, he hates the vacuum. He hisses at it, he will even swat at it if it comes toward him. Well, one day when hubby was vacuuming, the vacuum literally came apart in his hands. Handle separated from the rest of the vacuum, there were pieces strewn about. The vacuum was dead. Trent saw this, he saw that his mortal enemy was wounded. So after hubby left the room (to get tools, I think), Trent approached the vacuum very cautiously, snuck up on the monster....and WHACK! Smacked it and jumped back waiting for the monster to attack back. When it didn't he approached again...WHACK! WHACK! He did this a couple more times and then came over to me SO proud of himself!

You're so right! I frequently take them with me to visit at my parents'. Cinders stays home for some peace & quiet. When we get there, Joey, the little manx, runs down the hall to play with Zelda, my dad's cat (Zelda flies at JC, all hisses & claws); Icy goes up to their pet room for R&R; JC spends his time in the livingroom, entertaining the humans and tries to figure out how to make a play-mate out of the weinerdog.

Heidi, what a funny story!! That would be a great video for Animal Planet's Funniest videos - vacuum-killing cat! He should be proud of himself - that took plenty of courage to destroy that beast! I bet you still laugh about it to this day! Thanks for sharing! Susan

JC sounds like a real mischeivous ham of a kitten... a really smart and loveable one of course.
