Cat and Cow milk?

I know that one should not feed kittens cow's milk because they may have problem digesting it resulting in problems.

What about an adult cat? What if you were eating a breakfast of milk (cow) and cereal and the cat jumps on the table and tries to sample your bowl of milk cereals. Is it ok to allow the cat to have milk?

A little milk will probably not hurt an adult cat, but it is better not to let them get the habit. Some tolerate it better than others, but it is not a good idea. If you want to give them milk, and they ask for it, then use special cat milk, or goats' milk. But I keep it as a special treat (unless they are sick and I need to get nourishment into them) - milk was designed by nature as a food for babies, not adults.

I dont suppose a small amount will do them harm unless they are lactose intolerant. My Tulip has had cows milk for over 18 years and LOVES it. I think after all this time-what the heck. Never upsets her tummy either. Dirt can take it too but I dont encourage it. The others just dont like it. None of them like the cat milk stuff one little bit.

I have one cat that even as a kitten he loved cow's milk. He drinks some every day, but he has never had any problems with it. My other cats don't even care for it, but he is crazy for it. He is a barn cat and lives out with the horses but will come in every morning to the patio to get his daily ration of milk. I do water it down though-

Thanks. So I suppose as long as I start small portions it should be ok? Is there any test at the vet to determine cat's reaction to milk? The thing is that I really like milk even as an adult and usually drink it with my meals at home. Some people come home longing for a cool can of beer but I long for a cool glass of milk. If the cat is ok then I do not have to constantly fend the cat's advances on my cups of milk.

You will see if the cat has a problem or not yourself-if he poops as usual, then he got no problem. If he has diarrea, then he got a problem.
It shouldn't hurt the cat, my parents used to give cats milk all the time.

I give mine some of the lactose free milk now n then, since thats what I drink. I had read some where that the lactose in cow milk was not good for cats
