Did you ever wonder where...

... certain sayings come from?? I am really fascinated by language and words and where things came from, and would love to hear any tidbits of knowledge people have about anything!

I thought of this post because I am typing a report at the moment and it's addressed to a surgeon - and you call surgeons `Mr' not `Dr'. When I first started in this field I asked what the reason behind that was, and it is because way back when surgery first started, it was barbers who did it - you know, men that used to cut your hair!!! They did all the early surgery, and because they weren't doctors they couldn't be called `Dr' but only `Mr' and the tradition has carried through to modern medicine.

Cool huh?? A lot of you would have known that already - but if you have any equally interesting bits of trivia to share - about anything or everything - I would love to hear them! Great conversation starters...`Did you know...'
