I saw this story on KNBC4, Los Angeles today and wanted to share it with you all. I wasn't sure which forum it belongs in, though. http://www.nbc4.tv/news/4248540/detail.html. The Los Angeles Police Dept. has rescued a group of shelter cats that the narrator says were most likely to be euthanized, and put them on patrol at their Wilshire Dist. station. The cats have eliminated the rat problem, and neighboring businesses are getting their own "rat patrols".
If only more agencies and businesses could get involved and do the same.It could create some real opportunities for some lucky kitties.
Great idea to help save more kitty lives! I wish they would have gone into a bit more detail in the article about how the cats were introduced to their new "job", the people who care for them, where the cats sleep, etc. Still, it's an idea I'd love to see catch on. Thanks so much for posting this!
I've proposed the same program here in my office. Every winter we have a mouse problem. We'll open our drawers and find a visitor. I suggested picking up a cat or 2 from the shelter. It was laughed at.
OMG, Sandy!! Haven't your bosses heard about Hanta Virus?? And I'm sure that's not the only virus that is found in mouse urine!! If your office was a daycare, the Health Dept. would sure have something to say about it. I hope & pray you get your office cats! Susan
When we start getting daily visits, they send out an email reminding us not to have food in our desks. Then they call in the exterminator who sets out more glue traps. I think they're afraid of someone getting scratched or having an allergy.
