i was driving home from school today and went over my usual hill to get there... and i started laughing to myself about when i got pulled over going up the hill... the speed limit is 25mph and in my 4 cylinder car, that is just about impossible to do unless you get a running start(there is a bridge and a stop light at the bottom of it by the way) well one day i got my running start, and by the time i was half way up the hill i was doing just over 30 and got pulled over... to make a long story somewhat shorter, i explained to the cop that my car has to get a running start and stay going(not hit the brakes) or i will not make it up the hill(the grade of this hill is massive by the way, i dont know the exact % though) and he didnt give me a ticket!!!
i was amazed and relieved. i mean, pretty much everyone(even those with bigger engines) have to start fast and stay going cuz there is a turnoff about half way up and there are lots of people that turn there and if you have to slow down for them, it is hard to talk your engine into finishing the rest of the hill

i was wondering... has anyone else ever given a cop an interesting but true reason for speeding(or whatever traffic violations) and actually gotten out of the ticket?? maybe we got out of it for telling the truth, rather than 'sorry officer, i have no idea what the speed limit is'.

My brother convinced a cop to let him go once. He acted like he had to get to the bathroom and fast! (For a bowel movement.) The cop believed him. I've personally never been pulled, thank goodness.

sucker! thats funny though, my uncle was sick to his stomach and actually did have to go to the bathroom, so the cop followed him to a gas station and when he came out he handed him a ticket and told him, 'had he been lying, he would have been taken to jail.'

Ah, that cop must get that excuse a lot!
What did he do, look before he flushed for verification?

I was doing 30 mph over the limit one night I was out with my girlfriend. She was drinking (I wasn't) and I got pulled over. The officer asked me if I knew how fast I was going and I said yes, 70 mph. My girlfriend starting mouthing off about how I wasn't, etc. etc. I told her to be quiet and that I had been speeding. He then asked me if I had seen him parked and waiting for speeders. I admitted I had. He asked why I didn't slow down and I said that I looked in the mirror and didn't see him pull out so figured I was safe and kept going. He went back to his car to check out my driving record, came back and let me off because he said I was honest!

Not long after we were married, hub got pulled over, doing almost 75 in a 55 zone....the state trooper who pulled him over gave him a ticket, and told him that he'd give his own mother a ticket for going that much over the speed limit........one week to the day, the same trooper stopped me on the same little stretch of road, I was doing 72.....it was raining, so I got out and walked back to his car, to keep him from getting wet (hoping to score brownie points, truthfully), while he was running my tag and license I looked at his name badge.........the last name was familiar, so dumb me, just had to ask, if he was a certain ladies' husband, she was my chiropracter's secretary, he said he was, and asked me how I knew his wife. I told him, and in the end he let me off with just a warning, thank God! Hub still grumbles about it to this day!

I was given a ticket for no dirvers license and a warning for speeding. I had to do community service for it. Deliver food to the elderly, Trust me no more driving after that. Old people taht I deliverd food to were either rude, flurty, (I had an old man call me baby when I did his house), Some were never home, other had smelly house or stronge smelling house with scents(i thought you would die from it). I swear never ever deliver to old folks.

Yes, numerous times. Emerald Isle is a small town and has far too many police officers with not much to do. I've explained I didn't know the speed limit through this area, I've worked all night and just want to go home, I've worked every night this week, and now I'm so sleepy and have to go back. A couple of years ago, I was going 52 in an area I thought was 45, and the officer told me it was 35, and I said, "Wow, I was really speeding, wasn't I, I know I was going over 50." He said because I didn't make excuses and told the truth, he wasn't going to give me a ticket. I've wondered ever since if he also noticed it was my Birthday?
Unfortunately, none of these worked for me last week, and I got a ticket for 51 in a 35.
Just spoke with my attorney today. Money right down the drain...

I haven't had any interesting yet true stories to give to cops, but I've never had a traffic ticket. I've been pulled over twice for a taillight being out, once for going 26 in a 20, and once for running a stop sign.

A couple of the stories are kind of funny though:

When I was a freshman living in the dorms my roommate and suitemates would go out and party a lot. Well, one night I got a call from them at about 3 am saying that they were too drunk and needed a ride home. So, my friend Tony and I got in the car and went to get them. Mind you, I was in my PJ's! So, I then had myself, Tony in the passenger seat, and 4 highly intoxicated 18 or 19 year olds in my backseat. Almost to the dorm, driving through school I got pulled over for doing 26mph. The cop pulled me over right in front of the dorms, had me do a field sobriety test, and then pulled the 4 girls out of the car. Now, they were so drunk they couldn't manage to stand in a line so he could question them. They just kept saying, "Are you going to give Katherine Wendy's coupons" (something my school does usually for designated drivers that get pulled over). I think the cop got so fed up with trying to get them all to hold still and answer questions that he just gave up. Unfortunately he was out of Wendy's coupons, so I didn't get anything for my humiliation!

The other good one is just this past Fall. I got pulled over for running a stop sign. The cop tells me he's not going to give me a ticket and goes to fill out a warning. When he gets back to give me my license and all that back he says, "How did I do? I mean, I don't like to keep people waiting to long to know whether they're going to get a ticket or not. So, how was that?" All I could say was, "Ummmm...that was fine." So then he thanked ME and drove off. It was too weird.

LOL, thats is funny! Too bad cops here dont shorten their time in the crusiers, lol.
I was pulled over for going through the park at 12 am. I was let off with a warning. lol. I was in my PJ's too. So I had to switch sides with Robert since I wasn't a legal driver yet, lol. I was a speedy person but now I go by the signs.

I was pulled over two summers ago for going 85 in a 65 zone. I was lucky in that it was a local cop who pulled me over instate of State Highway Patrol, because I know I would have been in much more trouble if it were a Trooper writing the ticket.

Now mind you, my friend really did have to go to the bathroom, and we were in the middle of nowhere. It was half an hour either way to an open restroom. Plus, my friend is a very prissy gay guy, who would NEVER pee in the woods. I suggested it at one point and he started squealing at me.

I didn't see the cop. What was worse is that I had just adjusted my seat into a more comfortable position, and I couldn't see out my rearview mirror. I must have driven for a few minutes with him following me before he put on his siren.

Here's the part where I should have been thrown in jail.
1. I pulled over on the wrong side of the freeway (The left instead of the right)
2. The friend I had with me? 17 years old. It's one in the morning, and I was across county lines. Thank heavens he looks 30.
3. I had forgotten my drivers licence, my college ID, and my credit cards.
4. I didn't have my insurance card with me because I had just gotten the car back from the shop earlier that day and had forgotten to put in the car.
5. The car is registered in my g-ma's name, not mine.

It must have been a new kid. I thought I was scared, but he was circling the car with his gun drawn. I gave him the info he needed, he ran it through the computer, and told me that since I was 20 miles over the speed limit he had to give me a citation.

Considering how bad things could have been. (Jail-time, fines, calling my mom at one in the morning to bail me out in a city that was an hour away....) I think a 103 dollar ticket was good.

About 3 years ago, I was driving home from my sisters house upstate... I was on the Palisades Pkwy, which is patrolled by State Troopers... I was racing another car and a trooper pulled both of us over... One cop went to the other car and the other cop came to me... They had clocked us doing about 95 in a 45 MPH zone... At the time there were construction signs up as well.. so it was a 30MPH work zone... I don't know how this worked but I came up with some lame story about how the guy had been following me since I left my sisters house and I was trying to lose him... LoL... I dont know if he bought that story or if I just got lucky because my father is a cop and I showed him my badge...
either way... I got out of it and the other guy got rocked with 3 tickets... OH well....
I get pulled over all the time and I laugh because I've never gotten a ticket... I think the funniest was one night Adrian and I were driving through Manhattan around 4am... we were bored and just wanted to drive around... I wasnt speeding or anything so when I got pulled over, I had no idea what I did wrong... The cop came over to me and said... "I pulled you over because your tints are too dark..." I was like "Oh okay..." I gave him my license and my PBA card and he was like 'Drive safely... and just because you have this card doesnt mean I have to let you go... " Adrian turned around and goes... "well you just proved that it does..." LoL! I was like "OMG SHUT UP!!" big mouth!

I received my first speeding ticket (which the cop called, "reckless driving" for some odd reason) a few Summers ago. However, it did not go on my record because I saw through this 4 hour class with other leadfooted persons like myself.

So I was 'forgiven'.

So then 2 yrs ago after being real late for work cuz I had to drop my daughter off to a new school, I was leadfooting again. Not stopping fully at stop signs, going apparently real fast, etc. So the cop blue-lights me and walks up to the window LAUGHING. Laughing! He says, "are ya in a hurry?". I said, "well yes why?". And he went on a comical tirade of ... you did this, you did that, didn't stop there, didn't stop here, driving fast and here I am right behind you.

So I said, I have a really good excuse. I told him my daughter started a new school this morning and I am about an hour late for work, and usually my boss doesn't work mornings but he decided he felt like working today. I gues something in my tone of voice made him feel sorry for me. He took my license & proof of ins. and walked to his cruiser. I'm tossing over in my head, thinking, oh great, the insurance on this stupid thing will go even higher now, I'll just sell it and get a nice bike or something...

So he walks up, still laughing, and says, due to such a nice clean driving record I'm letting you go Stephanie. Then he hands me my stuff and says, please, just try to slow down, okay? (then points to the stop sign) and STOP when it says to. Aight?

So as of yet my driving record is still clean. For now.

The first time I got pulled over for speeding, I was 17-years old. Since I was in a bikini (coming home from the beach), I thought maybe I could get out of it. Not so, but the ticket was only $80.
In college, I got smart. Since I majored in criminal justice, I always had law books in my car. If I got pulled over and the officer saw my law books, they'd get into conversations with me about my classes and I'd get off with a warning. After I graduated college , I started at the police academy (but couldn't finish; I didn't know the first thing about shooting a gun!). But I did get one good thing out of it: the law enforcement handbook they only give to cops. To this day, I keep that handbook highly visible in my car in case law enforcement has a problem with my driving
So far so good *knock on wood*

I've been pulled over about 7 times and have gotten one ticket.. but the one ticket wasn't even for speeding even though that's why I was pulled over. He changed it to a lesser violation of disregarding a traffic signal (the speed limit sign) to get me out of points. The other times I just got lucky.

Recently my bf has been pulled over twice but both were kind of unfortunate accidents. One time he pulled into the left lane to pass a slow driver but at the same time the slow driver pulled in front of him (he was going like 40 in a 55), so my bf passed him on the left in kind of a huff, but after explaining it to the officer he let him off. The other time was the day after he got his new car and we had to go somewhere we've never been and we got lost. He made a UTurn and kinda wanted to show off so he burned tires and skidded like crazy when he turned... right in front of a cop. So he didn't have an insurance card yet but in PA we have temp registrations on our back windows so the cop saw he just bought the car the day before so he let us go..

Living in the land of not enough time
I've talked my way out of a few tickets.

Let me start by saying...the guy who taught me to drive was a stock car racer.

The last time i was stopped was for 85 in a 50 zone. It was 10PM, no one was on the road..he was on the side of the road in the dark. I had gotten my new car in August and this was September.
I explained that the car I was driving before I bought this one needed a push just to get to 25. Once I got it started, it was 0-30 in 3.5 days. So I wasn't used to a car that could move. Plus the old car didn't have shocks so I felt every shimmy. The new car didn't feel like it was going so fast. Luckily I still had the temporary insurance card. He let me go with a warning.

I wasnt looking and saw a white car zooming up on me, so i slowed anyways because it was a red light. i saw his lighs flash at me and so i stopped at the light and didnt look over, so he honked at me. i looked at him (cute one too, hehe) and he stuck his thumbs down and told me to slow down, lol

The only time I've ever been pulled over I ended up with a speeding ticket for going 65 on the freeway. The speed limit was 55 at the time. The thing that annoyed me was in a week the speed limit was going to be raised to 65.
