Greetings from Japan!

I am the mom/owner of a very cute, very intelligent 10 month-old Calico kitten. I adopted her in October. I have always loved cats, but I have never had the pleasure of having one in my home until now. I am hoping to get a lot of pointers on how to care for her and be the best mommy I can be to her.

Thank you! I will PM you soon!

Unfortunately, all of my pictures of my little lady are on my cell phone, but I hope to get some nice ones of her up within the next week or two. She has only been in my home for 5 months, so I am a complete beginner.

Don't worry about the pic's just get them to me when you can and then I can make you some sigs and you can choose which one you like best!

Welcome to TCS! Give her time, space and watch for kitty body language. Don't punish her, redirect her to desired behaviors instead. Provide at least 2 litter boxes, and put the food away from the litter box. Feed the cat, not the bowl so she doesn't get to fat. Be patient, tolerant and respectful. Don't change her food suddenly, don't feed her at the table while you eat or you will end up with a begger and maybe a finicky eater. Try to teach her a trick each month. Have fun!! Good luck!

And post lots of pictures!

Welcome to the site!

Teach her a trick each month? Well, I don't know about that.
It's been five years and my girl sometimes will "ask nicely" for treats. If she feels like it. But then again, I don't ask them to perform like dogs.

If you have any questions about your little girl, feel free to ask! There are lots of people who are quite knowledgeable about cats that are happy to help in any way we can.

Thank you everyone for your kind welcome! I think Miya will appreciate me visiting the site on a regular basis, too! It's funny, even before they told me, I always kept Miya's food away from her litter box just because I figured, "Would I appreciate eating near my bathroom?" I hope I didn't do the wrong thing, but I found Miya is a grazer with dry food so I always leave it out, but with anything "wet" she will eat it all up, so I have to dole it out and I limit how many times a week she eats it (I am also very concerned about her teeth and digestive system). She is also very, very good about the litter box. It's even hidden away so she can have a lot of privacy.

mrsd, what kind of Japanese food do you eat? I think I am partial to the "weird stuff".

Um, I've only had what the Japanese restaurants serve locally, and it's probably not like 'real' Japanese food! I love fried rice and shrimp sauce. Do they have that in Japan?

Hum...never seen that on any menu in Japan except for Chinese food. Of course, there is sushi (I prefer sashimi--raw fish--less carbs, lol!), but in truth, I like a lot of Japanese delicacies a lot of foreigners wouldn't dream of eating--I don't want to list them here because I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea and I don't want to start a flame war. It's just that here, there is a completely different culture, so what may not be eaten in one culture is considered food in another.

You know, it's really funny, I can't think of too many Japanese dishes I like that would be on a menu in a Japanese restaurant in the US.
