This horse is going to be the death of me. We were getting ready to unload the trailer of supplies, and the trailer was near the shop. Racer got his head over the fence, got his head up into the trailer and grabbed a bag of cat litter. He heaved the bag over the fence, pawed it open and proceeded to start to eat the cat litter! It was clumping cat litter Swheat Scoop!

I came out to hop in the truck and noticed him eating- ran over and grabbed the bag from him. Quick grabbed his halter and rope and got the hose out and started flushing his mouth out. Big clumps of litter were just coming out of his mouth. Thank God he was trying to swallow the hose and not fighting it.

I don't know how he got up over our tall fence, and into the trailer and then dragged the bag out as well. Those bags are heavy!

AAAARGH! Ok you guys can pick yourselves up off the floor now and stop laughing!

LMAO!!!
Sorry, but that was TOOO funny.
Is he okay? The litter didn't make him colic or anything?
Horses are always getting into what they're not supposed to, aren't they? Sounds like you may have a Grand Prix jumper on your hands if he got over the fence!
Mine tried to kill me today...she decided she wanted to learn how to be a Lippizan...she was doing the airs above the ground on a gravel road!!

aww MA
i have a similar storie just a few minutes ago it happened.
I was feeding my fish and for some reason teufel likes the flaky food so as i was putting the food in he just raced and jumped straight into the fish tank and bounced back off! he did get the food though! but im considering this is harmless compared to yours eating cat litter

Oh Hissy,

I can just see that! I guess the good side of all of this is that you obviously have no problems loading Racer:-) - my mare hated trailers and the safest place you could find to store something you didn't want her to get would be inside a trailer:-).

Thanks for the great story. S'wheat is supposed to be flushable too, so it would be broken down in his digestive tract, still, it isn't something you want him to eat:-).

He's too smart for his own good....glad you caught the "little" thief before he had time to really eat a lot of the stuff!

It's made out of wheat, so that's why he liked it.

If you don't want us to laugh, you're going to have to quit telling us these stories!
The title alone had me laughing before I even started reading the post!

I'm still not over the story from a couple of months ago...the one about something large and inflatable flying by you and scaring the beejesus out of you...still causes me to giggle.

The flying snowman- yeah that was a hoot! Now, not when it happened-

Thankfully the vet said that the litter won't hurt him, it's biodegradeable-

Sounds like something our 4 year old horse would do. His new thing is to chase us when we are on the Quads. Thanks goodness we can outrun him!
