Carrie please go to the dentist chick!, your a really pretty girl and it would be a shame to spoil your looks in years to come by not keeping your teeth healthy

I hate it i really do, but once you find a dentist who understands your fears it's half the battle!.

Gaye, I will be thinking of you as well. The plus is that these days the dentists do understand these fears that people have, and at least, the one I found works with me to get through them rather than dismiss it as meaningless.

Also for people such as myself not having dental insurance that I can handle the cost of is killer, but they do work out payments-

The website is a great idea, but just looking at the instruments gives me a shiver. I have always been afraid, and then I had a bad experience and it's even worse now.

Thanks, MA ... I have absolutely ~no~ excuse. I have wonderful dental insurance thanks to my husband's job. The cost isn't really a factor for me. It is the abject fear. My childhood dentist was a monster. In fact, he is even now still serving jail time for what he did to the children placed in his care. I shudder just to think of it.

Let me tell you all about it

EVER since I saw Steve Martin in "Little Shop of Horrors" (he's the sadistic dentist) it's been hard to keep quiet and still in that chair !

That photo looks much better than the other concept you showed us. It looks much more subtle and relaxing. Besides that, I'm quite surprised at how many people are afraid of dentists. I don't recall anyone I know offline who is afraid, but then again, oral hygiene doesn't come up in conversation that often.

Yes I fear the dentist.

I'm in the process now of having some stuff done. In fact, I have an appointment this morning at 10:00. I had a filling break and come out a few months ago. When I first went to the dentist about it, he told me that I would need all this work done...talking about my other teeth...and would need 4 crowns and it was going to cost me over $3,000 to have everything done and I'd have to pay up front! I walked out of there and didn't make another appointment until just a couple of weeks ago when the tooth that lost the filling began bothering me.

Now I have a different dentist who I like. At least he didn't make me feel is if my teeth were in horrible shape and that I'd need to take out a second mortgage on the house to complete the work. In fact, he told me that my teeth are in great shape with the exception of just a couple of teeth...the one that lost the filling and the one behind it. (both upper back molars)

He decided that I might could get away without a root canal and he's going to do overlays instead of crowns. He said they are stronger than fillings, but not as expensive as crowns. Last week, he drilled them down and took impressions for the overlays and put in some temporary stuff that was supposed to last until next Tuesday when I get the overlays. But this temp stuff is really soft and is already coming out. Yesterday, I lost a huge piece of the temp filling, so I'm going in today. Hopefully, I can go ahead and get the overlays today. All of this for only $910.00!!!

The thing that makes me so angry is that dental work costs SO much that it's a real hardship on the average person to afford to keep their teeth in good shape. And dental insurance is a joke!! I pay about $48 a month through my employer for dental insurance and about all that is covered is cleaning twice a year and xrays. Anything else, I have to pay for. I'm thinking of cancelling my dental insurance because I'd rather pay the $20 for a cleaning when I need it, than to pay close to $600 a year for basically nothing!

That's my problem, I need work done, but I couldn't even pull 900 bucks out of my account for that and not hurt for the rest of the month. So, not affording means not going.

I get nervous around dentists (and doctors too), but I rarely go, so it doesn't matter.
