The website, I hope has a bit of friendlier logo than before. It is just about completed, and I would love any feedback on it-

It is friendlier than the last one Mary Anne.

The last one made me chuckle because it was like a horror flick.

I agree, it's not as scary as it was before... and I AM someone who's been putting off the dentist... for nearly a year.

It looks good. Actually, I can't really fear my dentist, because we've been friends with him and his wife (also ex-pats) for 25 years. Still, I feel some dread when I have an appointment (like this coming Thursday)!

That ones much better!

I don't like going to the dentist but i make sure i go for my regular checkups.

The one i have is great and he knows how i hate a needle so he always puts on a numbing gel on my gum first so i don't feel it.

He has a poster on the ceiling with different breeds of puppies and i keep saying he has to get it changed to kittens!!

oh yeah, right Susan..... like that numbing gel REALLY works

MA, this one does look a lot friendlier. I am terrified of the dentist as well, so I make sure and go to all my routine visits and floss and rinse with Listerine once a day and brush twice a day just like a good girl

I am so terrified of the dentist. I actually have about 5 gumline cavities right now, and cannot eat on one side of my mouth, or I am in extreme pain. Yet, still...I don't wanna go. I just have this fear that he is going to hurt me more than it already does. Well, it's not a fear, I just know he is going to.
Little embarassing to admit, but it's true. I would rather my teeth rot and fall out of my mouth than let a dentist poke at my teeth that already hurt.

Trust me, you need to go now. While putting that website together, I gained enough courage to go to the dentist- I called 1-800-Dentist and they hooked me up with a gentle, caring dentist who worked with me not against me. But I waited to long, and now I am paying the price with some major work being done on my mouth.
Had I gone in a few years ago, I would have been spared some of the extensive work that has to be done now. My biggest problem is I have no enamel on my teeth at all, making them very vulnerable to bacteria. It's a heridatary thing, my mom had the same problem and lost all her teeth at age 35- at least I have managed to keep mine nine years longer than that.

That's another thing, I don't have a dentist where I am living now. How likely is it that he is going to trust a new patient to make payments on a huge bill?
There's a few reasons, Afraid to, Can't afford it, and Afraid to again LOL
I do know I need to....but..
Will 1800 Dentist work in Canada?

Matt, I dread going to the dentist - so much so that I get physically ill (vomiting, shaking, sweating, the whole nine yards) just from thinking about it. I must be sedated the night before an appointment, the entire day of the appointment, and during the entire appointment as well. And I am NOT referring to what they laughingly refer to as "sedation dentistry" - I am talking a MAJOR knock out with heavy narcotics.

However, because I am in the same position as you - I have two loose teeth and one that is completely dead, I must face going and very, very soon.

At my last physical check up with my general practioner, I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse - a serious heart condition which my doctor thinks I acquired due to poor dental health. My kidneys and liver are also becoming compromised, again, they think, to poor dental health.

I'll make a deal with you - you go and I'll go. Shake on it?

I think the site is a wonderful idea.

Thankfully, I've never been afraid of going to the dentist. Actually, I rather love it because over the years I've become friends with the dentist and the dental hygentists. My mother asked my pediatrician to refer a good dentist, and I've been going to him since I was three. And believe me, I didn't have perfect teeth. I've had my share of cavities, and pulled teeth, and braces, and getting my impacted wisdom teeth removed (done by my dentist's brother, who is an oral surgeon). Now I'm almost 21, and the dentist says that all I need is routine maintenance, and my teeth should be perfect until the day I die.

Mind you, my mother has always been afraid of dentists, but knew how important it was to get me started at an early age. Because of how comfortable I was at the dentist, she herself was able to overcome her fear and will now go in on occation to get problems taken care of.

I think it really helps that I've been seen by the same hygentist for the past 18 years, and that my dentist remembers me and stuff about me, even though I'm only there twice a year. Familiarity and consistancy really makes a difference.
