I am just curious..what is your cats weight? It has been about 3 months since R & F had their full checkups, and shots, and Rocky weighed in at 16 lbs and 7 ounces...Fluff was 11 lbs...the vet told me to start feeding them Purina Indoor formula instead of Authority adult..Both R & F split 1 can of wet food a day in the evenings and there is almost always dry food in their bowls,,,I have been lowering the amounts of dry food I put in there but it has seemed to really give Rocky some issues...he begs more everytime I go into the kitchen...he will had already eaten but he is obviouslys till hungry.....I am thinking maybe half a can isn't filling him up since he gobbles it up completely...any pointers on this? taot

It really depends on your cats build to get an ideal weight range. Without seeing them, and putting my hands on them, I can't give you a good idea of what would be good for them.
My cats range anywhere from 6lbs to 18lbs. I have some that are at an ideal weight, and some that are a little overweight. Since I have so many cats, I have to free feed a diet that meets everyones requirements. For the overweight ones, I try to get them to play a little more for some exercise.

Willow is about 7 pounds and has stayed that way her whole life. Spot was about 7.5 pounds when I found him, and now he's up to a much healthier 11 pounds. Willow is petite and small-framed, whereas Spot has the biggest paws I've ever seen on a cat.

Hallie swings between 7 and 7.5 lbs. She is very petite though. Plus she has the PKD so I expect her to be small. I'm lucky to have her where she is! It's hard keeping her there!

Peaches is 8.5 lbs. she looks a lot heavier but that's because of her beautiful fur coat!

Jake is 9.3 lbs (Weighed him at the vet Thursday).

Last Weigh in Ghibli was 9.25 lbs, Molly is corrently close to 13, and Paige is close to 11.
Ghibli weighs about exactly what he's supposed to, or maybe a bit under. Molly is close to her ideal weight. I can feel her abdominal muscles and her front shouldblades are not covered by a hump of fat. her sides are not wider than her chest or hind hips. She does have a pooch of fat, but I suspect that is from being spayed. She's quite a large cat. Paige is overweight, but less so now than she had been before. I can feel her abdominal muscles some, but she is not sleek- her tummy is a bit round from her hips and chest, and her belly hangs more than Molly's

Buffy is 7 pounds and Willow is 9 pounds. Both are at a normal weight (I can feel their ribs) but both have saggy-ish bellies. They're slim if you look at them from above, but Willow has so much fur that she looks fat, and Buffy's got some extra skin just in front of her hind legs. But I'm guessing that in about 10 years, it'll be Buffy that'll be overweight and needing to be put on a diet, instead of Willow The Pig

Adia weighs 8 1/2 pounds. The vet checked her a couple of weeks ago and said she was just right.

Zoey is about 9 to 9.5 and thin but she is still growing , she has huge shoulders I am hoping she doesnt grow into them.. If she does I think shell hit 15 lbs easy...

Tristan - 11 years old - is overweight at 14 pounds - he should be around 12. Lion is 11 1/2 lb and Bear is 12 1b - both of them are right for their size. Abbie is 9 lb and Freija is 9 1/2 lbs and could probably lose a pound.

Cable, 6 months, weighs 6 pounds - lean & slender (for now, at least)

At last weight in Gandalf weighed 13lbs and Samwise weighted about 11 lbs. They at the time were only a year and a half old or so, neither are over weight but I have the sneaking suspicion that Gandalf is going to wind up being a huge cat; he has huge paws and a large build. Samwise on the other hand is still quite dainty even at the 11 lbs, heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s just very long.

George is about 10 1/2 lbs. He's finally filling out, for a while he looked like he was nothing but legs.

Sweetie and Blackie are about 8 lbs and nothing but fur.

Patsy is 12 lbs 2oz and is considered a normal weight. She gained almost 2 pounds in about 6 weeks when I first brought her home. She was abused by her previous owner and when I got her she was so obsessed with food she would guard her bowl and eat everything in sight.

Princess is about an ounce short of 13 lbs and is at the high end of her normal weight. She's anorexic so I'm really happy with her weight. During one of her starvation fits she got down to 9 1/2 lbs.

Everyone in my house is chubby. Jonas is 19lbs and Ezekiel (aka "freaker" cuz he freaks-out at everything) is 20lbs. I guess they are pigs, but I have to free-feed because I also have a very sneaky beagle who loves cat food and will find it and eat it no matter where I put it. I never know who has eaten what, so the bowl gets filled once at night and once in the a.m. Although, I can't really blame the dog...they were fat before we got her.

Authority also has an indoor and and "lite" formula. I have my cat on Science Diet Lite Hairball. It was the closet to the Science Diet Prescription food WD.
Weight loss takes a long time. My cat has loss a little less than 1 lb since 1/1/05. The big thing is to use a measuring cup when feeding dry food. My cat get 2/3 cup a day and that's it. I split it up into 4 separate feedings.

My cats range from 2 1/2 lbs (a very small 7 month old kitten who has a heart defect) to 18 lbs. Some cats can carry 16 lbs well, others not so much. We had a 22 lb cat at work that was there because the owners wouldn't diet her, she has a very small frame, you could tell by the size of her head and legs that she shouldn't have even been 10 lbs. One of the receptionists took her home and she is under 15 lbs right now. Weight loss can be a very slow process, and it should be, you don't want to go too fast because heavy cats who loose weight too fast can develop fatty liver syndrome. Here are some tips:

Try splitting up their meals, give them food three or four times a day instead of all at once.

Put their food in multiple bowls all over the house. That way they have to hunt for it, it keeps them busy and gets them a little bit of exercise at the same time.

Give them a little canned pumpkin, the plain kind, no added sugar. A tablespoon will fill their tummies up, and since its high in fiber it helps keep the pipes flowin'.

Give them a light food.

hector is part maine coon so he's a big boy at around 16lbs. i think that's probably about right for his size.

olivia is a little tiny thing, right now she's at around 6lbs. she was 5lbs when we got her, she's got a tiny frame so i think her ideal is probably around 7 or 8lbs. she's slowly getting there!
