I came home from work today to see that Chloe had actually had a 7th kitten, a little solid black one. It didn't make it, and had an obvious genetic defect, but because it was underneath her, it was still warm, so I'm not sure if it was born alive and died or stillborn. RIP little angel, I hope you go keep my Annalyssa company at that rainbow bridge.

So sorry. That was the same with my still born-mom was laying on it too but I seen in the xray that there was something not right with it and expected it to be born dead. I think maybe mom cats do that once they figure out the kitten is dead? I wonder why. Im glad I knew ahead of time because I wouldn't want to think mom killed it by laying on it I would be a nervous wreck!

I'm sorry, poor little thing. But I suppose if it had a genetic defect it was better that way for all of you then for it to suffer, you and it's Mom to get attached and then it die or have to be put to sleep. RIP little one.

I went in to weigh all the babies this morning, and one literally died in my hand. I have no idea whats wrong. Everybody has seemed fine, they all appear to be eating/sleeping and no one was crying a ton to indicate it wasn't being fed. This little one was in with all the others, Chloe hadn't moved it from her hidey hole or anything.
This is the hard part of rescue I tell you. I am taking it up to the vet to see if they might be able to determine the cause. The "runt" baby weighs 2.7oz but this one only weighed 2.0 oz, so now Im concerned.

Oh no, not another one!
Hopefully you'll find answers from the vet. Maybe some of them were born with some kind of defect.

Keeping you and mama and the babies in my thoughts.

I too hope you find some answers from the vet but sometimes there are none. These tragic events just happen for no reasons we can fathom.
This must be adifficult time for you - you are in my thoughts.
