They are doing this thing in our local paper to vote for the greatest rock band of all time. It's kinda fun, thought some of you might like to check it out.

That was fun, Tanya, thanks!

Some of those match ups are odd. Linkin Park up against JAmes Brown???? Come on, No Doubt and Linkin PArk is a more likly match up. They should of kept genre and decade in mind when matching them up.

Love it though!!! I really like a lot of those songs!!!

Great... as long as Dave Matthews Band comes out on top

As a member who works in the music industry and specializes in rock/active rock, this survey or voting scheme makes me laugh. And how they have it lined up against other artists are way out there, like for example, Guns N Roses vs Creed? VH vs NIN? talk about night and day... YEESH. If they really wanted to do it right, they should have done something like Guns N Roses Vs Velvet Revolver or Van Hagar vs Van Roth. And :censor::censor::censor:? Beach Boys Vs. Joan Jett????? What the heck? Pearl Jam vs GFR? HUH? This one killed me... White Stripes vs Allman Bros... okay. Can I have some of what the editor of this was on? None of these make sense at all. Its bad enough in the music industry right now, lets not make it worse. Maybe I'm taking it too seriously but still. I'm scratching my head.

I wondered about that, too!

LOL! That is exactly the same thoughts that were going through my mind. I had fun with it but at the same time the bands they matched up were ridiculous, especially GNR and Creed & NIN and Van Halen. I had a hard time picking because they are so different.

The choice is easy for me - Greatest American Band of ALL TIME = The Greatful Dead. There are so many good ones though. Thanks, Squirtle!

I voted for Kiss. They have had a major influence on just about every band on the list. Kiss is the GREATEST American Rock band, and they will ALWAYS be the greatest. You wanted the best...You got the best.... The Hottestt Rock band in the world.......KISS!

Don't get me wrong (and I do work for a nationally syndicated show that plays them almost weekly), but I can't stand them rehashing the same songs over and over again. The running joke last year was "we need the money tour" ...Kiss Alive IV was great, but... what else have they done? I can only remember Psycho circus... and that bombed... Badly. A band from the same era is still putting out cd's, some orginal and lately covers... oh that bands name... Aerosmith, whom they oured with 2 years ago and in my opinion, played better then Kiss, even though last years concert of kiss was great, and from what everyone said, one of the better ones in the past 15 years or so. Heck one of my favorite bands, Def Leppard (also from the 70's), Just put out a double cd that went Gold and already working on a new cd(s) to be released this summer/fall with a rumored boxset in the works... AC/DC is also in the studio doing a new album thats going to be released this year, if I read correctly. I understand the Kiss fan base and good friends with them, but even then, they are saying... c'mon guys release a new cd.

WHAT?! No Jimi Hendrix?
I have to say, of the ones listed (including my favorite band in the world NIN), Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble gets my overall vote.

Excellent choice!

I also was surprised about some of the bands on there.. No Doubt? Linkin Park? Green Day? Creed? The White Stripes?

I don't think any of these bands have much talent, even if you combined them all, and they are up for vote for the best band of all time??

To put them in and leave out so many other great bands -- Hendrix Experience, Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin... just makes me sick. There are ****so**** many more bands that have contributed so much more.

It's sad to think of the bands that are popular. I can't think of many popular bands today that I have respect for. Very sad, really.
Well, Beatles, Stones and Zeppelin are all from the UK, so that's why they aren't listed. I wonder, did they not include Jimi and even Janis because they were more solo artists than bands? Of course, with some of the combinations it doesn't seem they put nearly as much thought into as we are doing here!

I agree with some of the bands listed. Definitely not even close to my list of best US bands!
Haha Whoops! Didn't read it Just started clicking. hahaha

I would consider Janis a solo artist but it wasn't just Jimi but The Hendrix Experience with Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell more like a band.

I know VH1 did a show about the best 100 Rock Artists of All Time but I can't remember who was #1.

This battle of bands was patterned after the NCAA "round Robin" basketball tournament, where you have #1 seeds against #16 seeds, not necessarily bands of the same genre. Eventually as the battle goes on the selection of bands will make more sense. March 2nd is the vote date for the winners of the 1st round.

I was just explained to this morning how this all works, so thought I would share with you guys. Up until now it made no sense to me either.

Yes, I agree about needing a new CD. That's what the fans have been demanding, and IMO, Gene is ruining the band today with his greed, and his trying to make big money off of the band without producing new music. However, when you look at Kiss' past, they were great, innovative and original. Most of todays top bands will say that they grew up listening to Kiss, and are major fans of the band. I think it's about the end of the road for Kiss. That being said, I don't think that discounts the contributions they have made. Love em or Hate em, just about everyone in the free world knows who Kiss is, and the song Rock and Roll all Night, for that matter. I will always LOVE Kiss, for what they were and how positive an influence they have been on most real fans. Paul Stanley is the heart and soul of Kiss, he's the REAL talent in that band, and he is releasing a solo album within the next few months. That to me, will be worth all of the lack of new music from Kiss.

KISS
Although Gene is not only getting greedy in his old age, he's getting pretty obnoxious even by my standards.
I think Paul just had a hip replacement, Peter left the band (Again) and Ace is who-knows-where.
If I had only one album, (To anyone under the age of 30, that's a REALLY BIG, black CD) on a desert island, it would be KISS, ALIVE!
I never tire of hearing "Let me go, Rock and Roll"
