Well Hello Everyone

I need help AGAIN. Thank God for the advisors and my friends on here who must chuckle to theirself when they read my posts.

Okay....so my dilemma has been that I have been caring for my mammy in laws "yard cats" since her fall (she's 94) and the brood has grown from 4 to 18. I have been on here for the last two months attempting to find a group to come into my area to spay....there are none.

Well, today a lady called me from one of the Humane Societys (not in my county) and has offered to pay for spay/neutering for them all herself ! Praise God ! She is going to take my ole granny cat and keep her for an "office cat" and she said she will take the kittens and after they are weaned adopt them out.

I am also supposed to bring down the to the vet she mentioned (about 20 miles away) 3 of my oldest females. Well, the granny cat moved her kittens AGAIN. I believe they are still under the trailer next door, because that is where I see her go and come all the time, but we searched and searched and cant find them.

My biggest problem though (and I knew this was going to be a problem) is the one female ole granny had previously. It is the only cat that I have not been able to touch or even get close too. I have no trap available to. I even have called around...no luck. Today I tried to entice the wild lady into a carrier with food, almost caught her once, but I have to say her reflexs are a lot quicker than mine.

I dont wont to delay in getting these animals to the vets as I feel if this person is willing to help me, I need to do all I can to get busy and get them to the vets. Doesnt anyone have any ideas of how I can catch this wild one? I read the posts on ferrals in regard to trapping, but I dont have the time to spend getting this one accustomed to me. Actually, ALL the other cats come to me when called and even come up to me for me to pet them, but this one has always been distant. AND after trying to trap her twice today, I think she is going to be even more gun shy.

Any Ideas??

Your best bet is to borrow a humane trap...it's also the safest way to trap this cat.

If you have an animal control in your area, you can sometimes borrow a humane trap (with a deposit), or rent one from them. I think you are at a point that you need a trap. You might also ask the woman in the next county that is willing to help fund the spays if she has a trap you can borrow. Our Humane Society lends out traps all the time to folks that are willing to take the time to help out cats.

You are wonderful for doing this!

Thank you momofmany for your suggestion. As I mentioned in my post I had already called around to see if I could borrow or even rent a trap. No one seemed to have any available. The woman who called me? Yep, I went that route also. She said she used to have one but someone "borrowed" it and never returned it.

I have a plan this morning. We have an area under our steps that we have closed in so that the cats could eat without the dogs bothering them. The mamma of the "wild one" has really been getting prissy since she delivered her new kittens and has become a real pig. She hissies and swipes at any of the other cats that go in there to feed in the morning EXCEPT the "wild one", BECAUSE this was her kitten of a year ago. My plan is that when I go to feed them this morning, Im going to allow the wild kitty to go in the hole with its mother and then block its way out. There is a door to the enclosure and my husband will then open the door and grab her. I hate to frighten her to death this way, but it seems the only way. Actually it will probably scare the Pee out of me too !
I'll post back if we are successful.

Hello everyone. Well tomorrow 3/4 is our appt to get 3 of my females spayed. So I will be attempting to catch that little rascal. I have new though and I just felt the need to post. Although Scarey Cat, that the name i gave her (and not only is she scared of me but her features make her look very scary), once bolted from me, she has been allowing me to get closer to her. This morning I was sitting outside on the concrete walk and playing with one of the 4 month olds, Scarey Cat was sitting only 2 feet away very relaxed. I began throwing little pebbles for the little kitten I was playing with to catch and Scarey Cat soon began to play too! Im sooo excited !
