Now you've got the spirit!
Wood lice with beef on a bun.....mmmm.....mmmm

Nothing like a crunchy beef sandwich!

Come to think of it that's something you would see on "Fear Factor". I don't know if you get that program where you live. But people get $50,000.00 for eating things like that! You missed out, oh well.

Hey maybe you can call that show to be a contestant!!!!!

... Honestly, Susan, after reading this thread, it reaffirms why I don't want to eat ever again!! ugh! Nastiness!!!! I think I'm gonna hack!
I remember in college they opened a chinese station in the cafeteria and one of my friends found a bunch of dead roaches in her lo mein... I refused to eat from that place after that!!

eeewwwww Susan poor you

A couple of tips - the health department will probably want the packet. Before you hand it over (and I know you probably never want to see this thing again) take plenty of photos - your evidence should you need it.

Definitely inform trading standards.

You said it was from Morrissons? Tell them too. If they are packing it themselves they need to know. If they are getting these supplies from elsewhere they will want to deal with their supplier and maybe pull the rest of the stocks from the shelves for the sake of their other customers.

Good luck. Poor you.

I've been meaning to update this since this morning

I rang Morrisons head office first because i thought like you said Beth they would want to know because i'm positive that like most supermarkets they get their packaging done from other companies?!.

The girl i spoke to is sending me a pre-paid packet to put the beetle in, along with the packet that the beef was in so they can scan the barcode to find out where it was packed from.

She said they will want to know how it also got in there and get in touch with "whoever" to get to the bottom of it because it shouldn't have happend.

She said they would refund the money i paid for it along with a goodwill gesture for having to find the beetle, but i said i didn't want anything and that all i wanted was to know that the premises in question was up to hygiene standard.

I'll keep you updated

I missed this thread. What a nightmare! It would drive me crazy to find a bug in packaged food!
I hope they don't just call you back and try to tell you that their own health officials are looking into it. I think it becomes newsworthy if they try to pull that. They need an inspector outside their company to review the packaging plant.

I've just rang the health department up who said to let the store carry out their investigation and see what they come up with, but in the meantime to take a couple of pictures of it and to take down all the details myself off the packet that their wanting just incase i don't hear from them.

She said the store in question is high on the hygiene standards so she assured me that she had no doubts that they will get to the root of the problem but gave me her name and direct number should i not hear within several weeks.

It's good to know they say the store is good on hygiene. Make sure you get plenty of photos and every detail you can think of. Including writing down the characters that appear under the barcode - they are the numerical representation of the barcode information (you probably know all this - sorry if you do).

Believe me - you can never have too many photos in this situation.

I remember once on holiday in Spain when I was a child we were eating breakfast and my brother suddenly got a very strange look on his face as he was drinking his hot chocolate. He spat it out and there was a large cockroach which must have been in his cup before the chocolate was put in it. The waiter just laughed and I don't remember my parents making a fuss, except to ask for another chocolate! But when I found a dead spider in a can of grapefruit Sainsbury gave me a £25 voucher and a long letter of apology, though the can was packed abroad.

Susan! I spoke to my Mum last night and asker her about the Leatherjacket! They are the larvae of a crane fly! They don't have legs! So it must have been a wood louse you found! Yuck!

I am pleased that you have spoken to Morrisons and the Food Standards! I hope they do sort it!
Although, I don't envy you having to look at it again tonight! Eeew!
