Oh good grief that is horrible! I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. I probably would have lost my cookies had it been me (I'm deathly afraid of bugs)!!!

Eeeewwwwww! Poor you, Susan!
That must have been such a horrible surprise!

By the way, I am sure that Leather Jackets and Wood Lice are different!! Leather Jackets tend to live in the garden and can get into the roots of plants! (or something like that, didn't listen too closely to my Mum!) Either way, they are pretty yucky where ever they are!!

I hope you find something better to eat for lunch tomorrow!

Sarah it's the Leather Jackets, the ones where you lift a stone up and all these hard backed beetles go running!

Thats when my sister corrected me on the wood lice. I still don't know why i call them wood lice?!

Well almost everyone..but not us. We found a roach stuck to the side of fried dumpling fairly recently.. we cancelled the rest of our order and left. For someone who already has some bug issues, does not like going out, does not like being around crowds of people and usually won't speak up if there is a problem.. it was not a pleasant experience to say the least and still effects me. I swear it was smiling.

We don't goto that place as much anymore even though it was a rather good meal for a cheap price..but when we do we get good service. The waitress we always ask for is so nice, even before this happened, that I hate the thought of going to other places. Especially since there are not many places I will actually go to because I do not like "new" places I have not been to yet.

Instead of letting it be a negative experience that keeps me in the house even more, I make that much more of an effort to "get over it". Still working on that but I can't let one bug be a set back in my efforts to go out for what I consider "exposure therapy". I used to not go out pretty much ever.. but I am making some progress slowly.

The way I look at it.. the way I HAVE to look at it not to go crazy.. is so many places in the world have bugs and people are still alive.. some cultures even cook or eat the bugs themselves! Needless to say I do examine every bite of food I eat in the place now and I hope they have "cleaned up" after that incident. I would not have the heart to call anyone on them.. I will leave that upto the next person if there is one.. besides, they would know it was us... then who knows what we would find in the food.

You all are a hoot with that beatle photo exchange. But seriously Susan, that must be very traumatic to find a bug in your meat! At one of my old apartments, I came home to see this thick, MOVING black line on my kitchen wall. It was a line of ANTS! A piece of candy melted in a cupboard and we had bad insulation and....ugh, to this day I am freaked out by ants.
On a similar note, did you all know that it is LEGAL for candy bars such as butterfingers to have a certain amount of bug parts, such as roach legs, in their candy?!?!

I hate to break this to you, but that is true of all packaged foods, not just candy bars. Government regulations allow for a certain amount of that stuff (and other things I won't get into) in all manufactured food products. The best thing to do really is to try not to think about it.

Gosh, is anyone going to be able to eat a meal again after reading this thread?
