I have two american short hair cats, well I had two one just passed away. They are going to be a year old next week. How will the other cat act now that his sister is gone. They always played together and have been together since birth. I am wondering does he know his sister is gone. This just happened last night we let him smell her after her passing not sure if that was good or not. What can we do to help her brother if anything?

I think you did the right thing letting the survivor know his sister is dead. You may well find he goes into mourning, missing her, for a while, but hopefully, you will find that does not go on and on. At least he is a young cat; with some older cats, losing a companion can be devastating. Maybe you could consider getting another cat for company for him, if he seems to be pining? But above all, you need to give him lots of love and cuddles, especially if he seems to be lonely.

Sorry, no advice, just wanted to say how sorry I am that you've lost your cat at such a young age. I have two Burmese 7 month old kittens, who are totally inseparable - I dread to think how one would cope without the other, and I'm really sorry that this has happened to your cats.
