Ok guys - well in about an hour I'm off to the hospital for plastic surgery to remove the rest of the area where my melanoma was removed before Christmas.

I can't go to the little hospital in my town because the plastic surgery team only works from the big hospital in the City. So I've got to be there at 12.45 and will have my surgery some time this afternoon. Then, as long as everything goes to plan I should be home around teatime.

I've managed to avoid thinking about this all the time I was in Paris - but now I'm home.......I'm not looking forward to it. Although it's similar to what I had done last time and will be under local anaesthetic it will be a bigger operation and will take out all the old area that I was operated on *sigh*.

Well, I hope to be feeling well enough to be posting tonight.

See ya

I'm sending big huggies your way girlie
Just lie back and think of England as they say!! Just think, this time tomorrow it will all be a distant memory. I find it helps never to focus on the event, but on something that's coming after the event - think about what you'll be doing this time next week - and this is just one of those little steps to get there
Hope it all goes well with you and do let us know!

Awww thanks Emma. I'm trying to do that now - daughter and hubby are planning to make this kind of strawberry shortcake thing after I get home. Very decadent with loads of fresh strawberries and some cream (I don't normally eat cream) - I'm trying to focus on that
I'm also adopting a positive approach imagining myself resizing our Paris photos to put them on the board tonight!

Not many did Susan. When I heard the "C" word just after Christmas I tried to treat it as no big deal (with varying degrees of success!) it feels like a big deal today

But knowing I have you all with me will help.

I know how you feel Flissy - I got the big "C" word when I was around about 15,after 2 years of wondering and testing and junk .. and it's kinda strange - no matter how small it is, the big C always is scary. You know while you're in for plastic surgery, you could always make a joke about having something else done as well while they're at it!! When I was in having Alex, I had an epis, and I was terrified of being all stitched up again - so I just asked the doctor if he'd mind putting in a zip for me, to make life easier next time around. I think I also asked him to take a bit off my bum and stick it to my chest, but I was told that if he did that, I'd not be able to stand upright, cheeky git! But it broke the ice and we had a good laugh over it for a while and I hardly noticed the stiching! Just gotta keep your chin up!

Best of luck to you Beth! I'll be sending you lots of healing vibes today and please let us know how you are when you get home.

I had a good friend last year who had to go through the same thing. His melanoma was on his abdomen, below his left chest. They took out a fairly large area of about 6 inches long around the area where the actual melanoma was found just to make sure they got ALL the cancerous cells. He was sore for a few days, but the scar is barely noticeable now and best of all.....he's cancer free!

Melanoma is cureable when they get it early......and it sounds like that is the case with you. Hang in there and learn to vigilant about any changes on your skin from now on and you'll be just fine.

Good luck to you dear. I'm glad you are accepting and dealing with your melanoma. Those who ignore it (decide not to get treated for it) are asking for trouble. I know a man who had a melanoma removed and refused the recommended radiation treatments. He was gone within a year. Do as your doctors say! Take care.

Hi folks - I'm home again. I feel ok at the moment, but as I can't feel my back (local anaesthetic) that might not last too long
.

Thanks so much for all your thoughts, prayers and goodwishes - it means so much. And the purrs and headbutts were lovely
.

Emma - when they finished stitching me up - the doctor noticed my fatty lump on my back (which I've been happy to leave there as it does no harm) and said "you should have said we'd shave whipped that out whilst we were there". But he'd had a long day and his back ached and decided not to. phew! I didn't fancy two sets of stitches.

I'm always pretty vigilant about my moles and get them checked, but this was on my back where I don't normally see things (under my bra line). I noticed it when in the changing rooms trying on new undies for my holiday and looked in the scary three-way mirrors that show you all your wobbly bits you'd rather forget about
. But I'll be checked very carefully for the next 5 years. The dermatologist has looked at all my other moles and told me they are totally boring (i.e. uninteresting) and the melanoma hadn't sent anything out into my body so all should be ok.

Apart from regular checks - this should be the last treatment I need
and the prognosis is very good.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts - they brought a lovely rosy glow
. I'm being pampered now. I have such a lovely hubby and daughter.
