Control freaks

Thread Starter
I am of the opinion that people who don't like cats are control freaks, used to making others, even pets, do what they want, and since cats can't be intimidated or trained, the control freaks do not like cats.

I think this is the reason that most men do not like them, because for the most part, men are controllers.

I may be leaving myself wide open to attack for making this broad-brush statement, but it is what I believe.

Leonard.

My Bill is a strong, secure and confident man, who wouldn't dream of trying to control anyone else. Yes, when there is a job to be done, he IS a take-charge kind of guy - get the job done and move on to the next one. I find this an admirable quality.

Personally, I know more WOMEN, who are control freaks, than men.

I'll disagree with that statement, Leonard. One of my very good friends, a male, whom I wouldn't exactly describe as a 'control freak', yet who is quite a strong alpha male personality, if you will, is completely and totally a cat person.

I too know control freaks, and they own cats and they love them. One is a female, the other is a male.

That is a very general statement that may not be true for everyone but, it works in my house... My father is a control freak and he's always hated my cats... he would never hurt them but he'd rather not have them around... Adrian on the other hand is far from a control freak and he loves Kai, even tho he pretends not to sometimes lol

I consider myself a control freak, and I'm a cat lover!

Hey Leonard. Just curious where you put yourself in all this hypothesis?

Yay, Leonard!! Yes, I agree with you. I worked in dinnerhouses for 15 years, and my co-workers & I often had this discussion. As a trainer, one of the first questions I asked a trainee was about how they felt with animals. "Dog-loving,cat-hating" people were rarely hired, and were the least likely to make it through the busy winter season. I worked with dog-owners, but they all liked my cats & horses. I used to keep a newspaper clipping of a survey on "dog-lover/cat hater", "cat-lover/dog hater", "dog lover/cat lover", "animal hater" in my drawer - it found that a "dog only" person was least likely to help a kitten or a small child in a perceived dangerous situation; "cat only" people will help a dog or small child almost as much as the "dog/cat lovers" and even an animal hater will help more often than the "dog only", which was the big surprise. Quite often, I've found that many "dog only" people have many misconceptions about cats, and when they meet my crew, they are amazed. This is a good post!! Thank you for thinking it up! Susan

Leonard, that's a very interesting concept but I thinks it's too general of a statement to make.

I'm middle-aged and single so I'll not share my opinion of men.....

I know alot of big burly hunky men that are soft on the inside and like nothing more than cuddling with their kitties. Some of them are control freaks and some of them are not. (Unfortunately, they are all taken, dad namit!) I also know alot of women who fit both categories as well.

So, are you going to answer this question??? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hmmmm... I have a feeling I'm a control freak. I'm a female with 2 cats. My fiancee isn't controlling, but my ex was. That's why he's my ex!
My sister is into dogs, I would say she is a control freak, but her dogs get on my nerves. They are always in your face, like too needy, they annoy me enough to want to avoid them, I never want to visit her if I know they are there. But she is very insecure...maybe that would fit better, instead of control freak. Cats aren't usually as needy as dogs, they are aloof & independent & sometimes not very reassuring in terms of giving affection when you need it the most.

Some people say I am a control freak. But I am not with my beloved cats. I guess, they control the control freak
post #12 of 20
I think it is a bit of a general statement - though I can see where it is coming from. I like cats because they are like me, independent, and I don't like people or animals who are indiscriminate about their admiration or emotions, or who don't know what they want in life. But I am often told that I am a dominant personality, so maybe I have got me and my cats all wrong!

I think it's a combination of a lot things. control freaks might like cats cause they are clean, who knows.

I agree and then again don't agree. I have known several men who just downright hated cats yet put up with them to be with the girlfriend and/or wife. Those several men who hated the cats were indeed control freaks. They would make comments about how "cats cannot be trained" and "you have to really fight for a cat's affection" and such. Sort of like, how a woman can't be trained and you have to fight for a women's affection (or at least - be kind to the women, which some men just cannot).

Usually men (and women) who dislike cats also don't like kids or unruly dogs; they just don't like people who aren't obedient to them, period.

Then again I've known several women who were cat-haters and utter control freaks. Women who tell their hubbies to jump and they say, "how high?". Women who won't walk into a house with cats because of fur & the fear of getting clawed, etc. etc. etc...

i agree in the sense that all the cat-haters i've met are control freaks but thats not to say a control freak cannot be a cat lover

People who don't like cats may be a lot of things (including nuts, IMO ) but they are not necessarily control freaks. My mom is not a cat person but she is also far from being a control freak.

I am a major control freak, as some of you can tell. I have to have everything in it's place done at the right time, and when I want it done. Sad to say yes, but true
I find my cats to be much like me in that manner, they have a mind of their own and don't require the "work" of a dog...if that makes sense.
The other, and the reason I quoted Marge. I love them because they are clean, they don't drool, pee on my floor and they don't stink.

Oh don't make me come over there Leonard! Sorry just my man instinct trying to control you lol, anyways I don't agree that most men are controllers although I don't really have much to back it up.

Most of the women I volunteer with are utter control freaks - and they all have ten or more cats!

Leonard,
I am sitting here cracking up because of what you reminded me of. When I was married to my controlling 1st husband, I called my Grandma for advice. She said "don't pay attention to him, honey. He's only a man." Grandma is still the controlling one in my family.
