For those of you who know me, know when it comes to Tousse and Bease I can be the biggest hypochondriac. I just wanted to get feedback before I made what may be an unnecessary vet appointment. Bease had her two week check up & her stitches were removed. The vet kinda probed, looking for something? I dont know. Well the other night I was playing with her and rubbing what I call her pouch when I felt a lump. At first I didnt know what to think, so I held her down (which she hates) and felt again. She has lumps right where her two last nipples are. They are hard and exactly right behind her nipples. I looked on the internet for info and the info all says that breast cancer in felines usually occurs about 10 years of age. Can she have breast cancer? Or could it be something else?

Hi,

I am sorry..what a lousy thing to be worrying about. Are these two nipples anywhere close to where the incision ends on one end? If so, could it just be residual swelling?

I can't answer your question, I can tell you I've had a cat who had mammary cancer, it felt like a small lump under one nipple, and I can tell you that I'd call and ask if this is in anyway even possibly related to her recent surgery/incision...be sure they know exactly where these two nipples are in relation to that inciscion, and if they are in any way unable to say positively don't worry about it, I'd have her back in for an exam.

I am wondering (maybe one of the vet techs on the board can comment) if this could just be mammary gland hyperplasia, which the recent spay should help abate??

when was the cat spayed, was it before her first heat? If it was before her first heat it is not mammay cancer. Mammary cancer is one of the cancer you eliminate by spaying before an animals first heat.

She was spayed before her first heat, or that is at least what the vet told me. There was a question as to whether she was or wasnt in heat. But the vet after the spay told me she wasnt. I called the vet during my break and the person I spoke to would not discuss it with me over the phone. Sighs. The vet probed her areas down there especially in the area I call her pouch. You know how some cats have that little pouchey thingy? Bease has always had one, even as a kitten. The nipples in question are below her incision, right on or near her pouch, and its only the last two of them. I've never thought to ask before but is normal for her to have a pouch, a quite prominent one at that?
here is the only picture I have of it.

Thank guys for your help.

My cat Spirit has had a pooch like that since I got her at 5 weeks old, it is very normal for some cats. I would wait and talk with your vet, I'm sure it is nothing.
