Well, today was Bella's first official vet visit, seven days after I got her
(She and I have come to the agreement that the Animal ER didn't count as the vet - just trauma!) She did indeed have a URI, and I was given oral antibiotics as well as eye goo antibiotics. They wouldn't take her staples out though, and I'll have to take her back mon or tues for that, so as soon as we got home it was back into the ace bandage. Between that and giving her meds when we got home, she's not too happy with me right now, but I'm giving her some time to cool off! The biggest shock was finding out she only weighs 5.5 lbs!! The paperwork from the humane society said seven. She is almost a year old and really very long. The vet said I should definately keep feeding her kitten food for a while, to get some weight on her! My skinny little girl...she didn't get it from me!

Aw poor Bella (cute name too). Sorry she's unhappy... but really, what cat IS happy after a vet visit, lol! Do you think perhaps she lost weight... if the humane society said she weighed 7lb and now she weighs 5.5? I just say that because when we got Max his paperwork said he weighed 12.5lbs and when I took him to the vet he only weighed 11... I think he lost weight from stress but he's gained it back now!

Glad everything else is okay though, right?

Thats what I originally thought too, but Bella landed in the Animal ER less than twenty four hours after I got her (she bit her sutures out) and they had faxed my vet the charts. Their chart showed she weighed 5.3 lbs, so she has gained two tenths in a week, which is good. 5.5 is still WAY to small for such a long kitty though! The vet played off the Humane Society's goof though, saying maybe Bella was jiggling around on the scale (even though Bella's WAY docile). I'm figuring they knew it sounded less malnourished. Any ideas on getting some weight on her?

That she's already put on .2 lbs since she's been with you is a good sign.
Kitten food is definitely a good way to pack on the pounds. But really, the best way will just being in a loving home with food regularly available to her and clearing up that URI. Ari's definitely right, stress will make them lose weight. So that she is in a stable home is absolutely the best way for her to gain weight.

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Bella, you're such a good little girl!
You'll be out of that bandage, finished with your meds and feeling great in no time at all! You're taking such wonderful, loving care of your baby, Stacy! Bella has a license to eat absoutely as much as she wants!
How lucky is that!
She'll be at her best weight before you know it!
