My cat is a talker. He's loud and vocal. He's a turkish Angora (I don't think that means anything, but.....)

He use to walk around the house calling me, my daughter, the other cats at the top of his lungs! It sounded like this " Maaaaaaggggggow?"

He would do it at night and wake us all up. I would, half asleep, tell him to shut up and smack the night stand.

He stopped for a while. Good news.......

Then he started being quieter about it. He'd walk around cooing to us. Trying to locate us. Its is a beautiful sound.....very loving sounding.

One night he was doing it at the side of my bed! constant...continious....it got more and more annoying. No amount of coaxing from me to get on the bed stopped him.

I told him to shut up....he did. he's very well behaved. I didn't yell or anything. A simple quiet "Butch, shut up" worked. Good boy.

Last night I woke up to him trying to be even quieter about his callings....he sounded like he was whispering...

Anyone here heard a cat whisper? It was strange. I actually thought he was choking or evacuating a hairball. He walked past my bed, looking fine....whispering to the other cats....trying not to wake me up.

What a guy. He is brilliant.......I don't think he's a cat though.....He's definately something else!

That's adorable. My oldest does something similar at night. She calls out to us trying to see where we are. She has learned that "shhh!" means to be quiet! I am constantly amazed at how intelligent these creatures are!

He sounds so so so loveable. And tell him that a lot!
We had an opposite situation in that Saba was a rescue and came to us last month and she is very petite. She had a silent meow, and when she did really meow it was so tiny and faint....probably from being outside for so long and not calling attention to herself. But after us telling her it was ok to speak, NOW we have a little diva who tells us everything!!! LOL!

He is VERY loveable. I do tell him alot. He doesn't like it though. I think he thinks we torture him for the shear fun of it. He'll swat us if we get to close to his face. I've gotten around this by putting my hands on his head and kissing him.

Since he's white lipstick stands out on his head very very well. Poor guy has to walk around, trying to be tough, and intimidating with lovely pink or red lipmarks on his head! lol

He knows hes loved though. If he really didn't want to be kissed he's just run from me.....he doesn't. I suspect he "presents" himself for kissing and fawning. But with the appearance of being beyond it all. Must maintain at all times proper feline decorum after all. LOL

My Turkish van Ghibli is also a talker.. you know, you'e lucky, it's said by the turks out here in the us, that if you get a turkish cat, it's worse than being married to a turkish man :p

Lovely breeds come out of my fatherland, I feel.

they are relentless aren't they??? Like, this is it, THIS is the night!!
My dog has at thing about staring at people while they cook ground beef--she has done this for the entire time we have had her (nearly 12 years) but on a faithful night about a year ago she finally got underfoot enough to trip my dad on the way to the colander to drain the meat and there was ground beef and grease EVERYWHERE
We got her out of the room right quick and cleaned it up, but I still giggle when I think about what must have been going on in her head...."this is IT, the MOTHERLODE!!!"

so, obviously, she still waits

what patience waiting twelve years before tripping anyone up! Maverick stands underfoot just enough so she gets stepped on and then gets fuss and chicken in the way of apologies.

i guess she's a firm believer in no pain no gain.

My two cats understand "One minute please" or "Hold on please" They both love to sit in the window sills and will paw the blinds so I open them. I'll tell them "hold on please" and they stop and wait for me to pull up the blinds!

From my experience, I definitely think cats have the ability to understand the English language. My cats understand "Stop", "No", "Let's Go", "Hurry" and "Get Down", "Come Here", etc. I talk to them like they're human. It's a little creepy sometimes.
When I call them by certain nicknames, they know when it's time to eat or go for a walk. Or if I call their name in a certain tone, they know what it means. They even understand a hand motion or death glare.

I've not met any turkish men that I am aware of.....but from the demands made by my turkish angora....oh my god!!!!

He talks constantly. He talks to me constantly. I'm told that if I arrive home late from work, Butch will have paced and waited and cried and paced and waited by the door the entire time!

He talks non stop, have I mentioned this already? He'll jump on the counter (he's knows he's not suppose to) He waits patiently for me to pick him up and place him on the floor. He will even lift his back leg for me to hold! He's very accomodating that way. But he's talking the entire time! I know siamese can be bad talkers, I had 2 females growing up. But this is unreal! unbelievable.

He will sometimes run under my feet. And he fully expects an apology when I accidentally trip on him. He doesn't know I know he does it on purpose though. Although to be fair, he does get an apology. He's a manly cat. Full of machoness. He needs to cause little things to happen so he can get the love and cuddles he wants without looking like a girly man. He has a reputation to uphold after all.

PFFT! Sure he knows! Ghibli has taken to standing on the top of Jason's big screen.. however, when he's being bad, he's also indignant when we put him off of things and tell him no. He gives us the "stupid human, you are MY servant, and you will not tell me what I may and may not do" kind of look. Also, He tells me when I'm late in feeding him, and if I open a can of food and portion it out three ways, he complains that i'm too slow, He also meows until I turn on faucets, or wake up to pet him in the morning.
