I thought the film was fantastic--really its hard to compare to the stage play just because they could do a little more with special effects. I also liked the characterization of the Phantom in the movie.

...I wish they hadn't gone as "rock" with the film though for the Phantom...but I didn't like Michael Crawford's Phantom either...personally I think that the Phantom needs to be able to sing both the heavy beautiful opera style as well as be able to rip when neccessary

but I thought the movie was great and you should definitely see the stage show at some point

Loved the play...haven't seen the movie yet. Hopefully, the movie version is much better than the movie version of Les Miserables was (hated it!)

I love that movie, hoping to go see it again this weekend as well.

I've seen the stage version and I love this version of the Phantom much better. I always thought that Michael Crawford came off as a pansy, so I like this raw, passionate character much better.

Not to mention he's a hottie.

It's not out here yet, but my mom and sister saw it Monday, and loved it, so I'm looking forward to it opening here.

I think I want to see it again. I signed up to go to the stage show in toronto in highschool but it was cancelled that year for weather or something. Now it's no longer in toronto but it's in NYC which is about the same distance although I'd assume both areas come with their headaches.. Problem now is I don't get a group student discount! Sometimes AAA runs specials on stuff like this so maybe I'll get lucky.

My daughter and I saw it 5 times in Toronto starting when she was 10 yrs. old and we are anxious to see the movie. That is what she asked for for her birthday every year. Our Toronto stage Phantom, Colm Wilkinson, said the movie was brilliant. We thought that if they could have Colm Wilkinson as the phantom and Sarah Brightman as Christine it would be the perfect singing combination. That's just our opinion of course.

As soon as Jennifer gets back from Europe we'll get to see the movie hopefully.

Just checked the DVD out frrom the library. How many times can I play it before my mom kills me!
(Played it 4 times in the last 4 days. That's what happens when my computer is in the repair shop!)

Have to the keep the tissue box handy, though. Gerard Butler looks so childlike after his kiss from "Christine". Patrick Wilson is easy on the eyes, too!

Really should get my own copy of the DVD because the library will want theirs back next week. *sigh*

Yes, I thought it was great, with one exception: the whole storyline kind of hinges on the Phantom being too ugly to fit into society. I like a movie hottie as much as the next girl, but really, he should have been less handsome.

I've always wanted to see it on stage! I haven't seen the movie either. I really don't like cities, so I've never tried to go to NYC to see it. We sang some of the music in a show our chorus did in high school (dancing and what not with our singing) and I loved performing it. We also did a few selections from Cats too that time!

I'll probably rent it before I go see it on stage. I bet DH won't watch it with me, but that's ok. Some movies are better that way!

I saw Phantom when it was in Toronto several years ago. I would love to see the musical again.

I did like the movie and do own it
, however I really liked the stage because of all the mirror tricks and such that they do. The movie was mostly digital editing and such, so it took less of the intensity out.

evnshawn - I
the guy who played the phantom in the movie...just as long as he kept the mask on.

Oh yea, and if you get Phantom crazy and read the book, DON'T!!! I kind of thought that Andrew Lloyd Weber's version of Raoul was a step below a man (aka a bit of a pansy), but the original Raoul in the book did nothing but CRY! It was pathetic.

omg yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the kids love it as well.. when we first got it and watched it the kids fell in love with it. i think we let it ply nonstop for like a week lol. i know we have already had to replace the movie twice because it got worn out so fast lol. The fact that Gerard Butler plays the phantom isn't bad either
i love bad scottish boys especially ones that can sing

I love Colm Wilkinson!!!
he is such an incredible talent!!, I saw Phantom at the Pantages in Toronto 5 times and loved it. I saw the movie as well and I liked both Christine and Raoul. But I was disappointed with the Phantom (but once you've seen Colm no one else can compare)

I liked the stage version much better than the film but I enjoy theatre. I saw the original B'way cast, the tour 2x and B'way 2 more times. This B'way cast is really good if anyone is planning a trip to NYC.
