I had one of by cats to the vet yesterday and she was diagnosed with a urinary infection. She's on antibiotics and has had two doses so far. She has not tried to use the litter box since being home, either to urinate or defecate. I can understand the urination reluctance since to hear her yowl when she came out of the box, she was obviously in pain. The vet also took a urine sample yesterday afternoon so she may not have much in there. My question is - is this normal and how long before it's not normal. Since today is Friday, I'm wondering if I should call the vet now. He's supposed to be calling me with the final results of the urinalysis today. Should I wait 'til I hear from him, or should I call right away.

Thanks,
Renee

P.S. There are days when I clean the box where there is not much in it. I also read somewhere about getting a new litter box since she might be afraid of this one. Should I try that before calling the vet? For once I hate that it's Friday

Best to ask your vet when he calls with the lab results - BUT - if he hasn't called by late afternoon, then by all means pick up the phone and leave a message for him to call you today!!

I always change the box if one of mine gets a UTI - they can sometime associate the pain of the UTI with the box they were using so instead of tempting fate and accidents, I just change the box.

Best of luck, let us know how it goes.

Thanks - I'm thinking the little stinker snuck in when I wasn't looking because I cleaned the box out this morning right after her sister used it, then again around noon, There was way too much "stuff" in there for just her sister to have gone again. She's also been much better this afternoon - downright perky and playful even.

I'm still going to ask the vet when he calls, although I checked and they do have Saturday hours, so I feel much better now. I'm also probably going to change the box. Even though the vet said there shouldn't be a problem with her sister catching anything, I'm going to err on the "overly paranoid" side. One large vet bill per month is enough for me.

Thanks again!
Renee
