I have an email in my bin that is breaking my heart. The man bought his ten year old son a kitten from the local shelter. The kitten was a 10 week old orange tabby boy. The son and kitten bonded right away, spent a lot of time together. Kitten began to be sick, vomiting, diarrhea, refusing food, and water, laid around a lot. The man (sadly) waited till the next morning to take the kitten to the vet. By morning the kitten was dead. He wanted to know why and so he contacted me. Through a series of emails it has been discovered that his son was giving the kitty raisins and grapes to play with (a lethal combo) both are highly toxic and cause acute renal failure.
PLEASE don't give your cats weird people food. No matter what. Unless you know for sure it is safe. The internet has a great websites for toxic foods. But certain fruits, FRUITCAKE and cakes and candies can end up costing you and your cat dearly-
The little boy does not know that he indirectly caused the death of his beloved kitty, but his dad is beating himself up for not being knowledgeable and not acting quickly enough. I told him that due to the amount the kitten ate, it was doubtful anything could have been done to stop the organs shutting down.
