Our heater fan went out. um... 4 days ago, or so. We've got a fireplace in the library, but it only effectively heats half the house. 2 bedrooms, and both bathrooms are without heat, including our kitchen, and living room. We've got the motor, just got to put it in when hubby gets off work tonight. We had to wait on a new one to come in

Well, I was going to make bacon, and I decided to bake it in the oven
There were directions on the package for baking, so I thought I would do it that way, and attempt to heat up the rooms where all my plants are, they don't like this cold at all
The cats also don't want to eat, their water is cold. I've moved the dishes to a warmer spot, but they like things 'normal'. Poor girls, thier pottys are in the cold part of the house as well.

What things can be baked instead of fried, etc? I never knew you could bake bacon

In our old house in CA we had no heater for about 2-3 years. In the winter we were bundled in pants, socks, shirts, sweaters, blankets etc. We had a fire place, but fire places really don't do very much, you need a wood stove or so for the real heat. We used the oven almost every day, whether it was baking, or just turning it on for heat. Now that we are in VA we have a real heater that works. Actually,we don't even use the heater very much thanks to the good weather and living in a brick house.

You can look on meals.com and look up some casseroles and cookie recipes, if you have dogs you can bake dog bones, or you might be able to find a cat treat recipe. You can bake lasagna and meats, how about a roast? I hope your heat gets working soon, I know exactly how you feel.

You can bake meatballs-its much easier than frying them. How about putting your plants in plastic garbage bags and using twist tie to shut them. That's how plants are tranported in colder weather-think of it as mini greenhouses. Using your stove as a source of heat is not a good idea however. Can you go to Home Depot/Lowes/Target or a good hardware store and pick up a ceramic heater. They are very small and though an incredible amount of heat??? They are really inexpensive and a good item to keep on hand.

Thankyou for the suggestions. I know that the oven is horrible to heat the house with. It was only on long enough to make food. I hate food being on the stove with nobody near.

Hubby got the new motor into the heater tonight
We just had to wait for the new one to come in, and for him to have time to get it in. It's so nice walking into our bedroom and it not feeling like a fridge.

I have known of a lot of women in this area who bake a lot durring the winter just because it helps to heat their houses. So glad we have heat.
