I got her around the same time Thriller came out.
There's actually a lot of that going around... my breeder had a litter of kittens where EVERY kitten was named after LOTR character. :p

Yes it does seem to be catching. My cousin's newest kitten is name Took, as in Fool of a Took.

My 1st cat, Medley, was a tortoiseshell. she was so named because she was a medley of colors. i got her a companion, a seal-point Siamese mix named Smoke.
Pixel & Mouse - Pixel is actually named after a cat in a book, but also after pixels on a cathode ray tube (think TV or computer screen). Mouse was named after a computer mouse, altho she was also the color of a mouse.
Cable was named after computer cables, since i already had Pixel & Mouse!
my ferals are just named anything - i've named some after Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats (the cats' names in the musical Cats!), some for their coloration, & some after Winnie-thePooh characters!

I've seen that too. A breeder of Goldens that comes in my work to get OFAs had a few dogs with LOTR names. Very cute.

I tried to vote more than once because I named one of my cats after a tv show character and others due to their coloring or personlities but couldn't.

Originally the first cat I got on my own I named Ghost because she hid and refused to come out for the first 2 weeks but I felt that was kinda a negative name and I noted she has unique markings/pattern that looks like a zebra so I decided to call her Zebra and it fit!

When I got the boys (black brothers), it was TOUGH to name them at first because they were only 3 weeks old when I rescued them so I had to wait a while for them to grow and be able to tell them apart since they look so much alike. I finally noted that one likes to chew on things so I decided to call him Spike after my favorite character (vampire) on the tv show "Buffy the Vampire slayer". The other brother I decided to name Buddy because he favors being with me and loves to be on my shoulders as I'd walk around..

Fourth cat- I had rescued a pregnant mother cat from a blizzard and before I could get her to a foster home, she gave birth to 5 kittens in my bedroom and one kitten was black and white and reminded me of salt and pepper since she's full of spirit and very feisty so I decided to call her Pepper. I noted Zebra favored her over the other kittens so I kept her while I found good homes for the other kittens and the mom cat.

Fifth and LAST cat (HOPEFULLY!
) A friend found him wandering near a very busy road near my work and brought him to me to save. I named him Tango due to his unique coloring (beautiful orange/white mixture and the color reminds me so much of tangos!
) I haven't added his picture to my signature yet since he is a recent OFFICIAL addition to my family.

George and Gracie. For those who are older, George Burns and his wife Gracie Allen, a comedy pair.

My ex came home with Tucker, who was a Walmart orphan, & Tucker liked to talk. So at first I was racking my brain for names of famous male speakers, & out of the blue, I think of the name of the guy who built those cool old cars. He may not have been a great speaker, but he was ahead of his time & the name fit so well, I knew that was it.
Mini was a shop orphan, the maintenance guy knew who the softie was, & brought her to me. She was so LITTLE & so dirty, & had markings so similar to Tucker..also, it was the day before my 2003 birthday. Many names came & went, I decided on Mini, because she was like a mini version of Tucker. She is still petite, a kind of chic version of Minnie. It's ironic that she is also named after a car!

My cat, Eponine, was named after my favorite character in the book/Broadway show Les Miserables.
I look forward to seeing your answers!

Have a great one,
Amy
yay

Haneko, ha-neko is "toothy cat" or "tooth cat" in Japanese (she likes to put her teeth on me). Hane-ko, is "winged child" in Japanese, and she has these white wing-like patterns on her back. She also has a bit of a split personality, she'll be cuddly one moment, and then put her teeth on you the next, so the duality of the name fits pretty well.

I named Frodo, my black cat after Frodo from Lord of The Rings...then when I got Sam...I just thought it was appropriate because Frodo now had a friend to play with and Sam always stuff by Frodo in the movies...so yeah....if I get a third I'm sure it will be an LOTR Character.

I'm surprised that there are not more cats named after characters from the play Cats. I'd like to name my next cat Grizabella the Glamor Cat and call her Bella for short ;-)

Does anybody know how to edit a poll? When I posted it, dumb me, I didn't think that some people would like to have multiple answers because, of course, many folks have multiple cats. I'd like to change it so that people could give more than one answer.
I'm sorry about that guys!

K.C. was named this because she is teeny tiny, like a kitty cat (fully grown at 6 lbs).

Jessie was named for a song I like...

Zorro was named after the masked hero, cuz he wears a mask!

Hamtaro was named after a cartoon character (an orange & white hamster), but we call him Hammie.

Dusty got her name because she looks like a walking dust mop.

Snickers was named after the candy bar cuz as a lil kitten, he had caramel colors, gray colors like nougat, and dark chocolate.

I couldn't vote because my options weren't up there.

Baylee was named Bailey originally, back when we thought she was a boy. I thought about names that people name their cats, usually alcoholic drinks and Bailey's Irish Cream came to mind. That and I went to Baylor, my then boyfriend (now FI) had named a pet of his after some college trait.

Max was originally named Amax, I assume by the people that had him last. We just took off the A because we didn't like that name, and Max seemed to work just fine (that and he was 6 and we figured he was already used to his name).

A friend of mine just came back from looking at Baylor for graduate school a couple of weeks ago. She said it was very pretty.

My husband and I wanted two pets to be named Eddy and Patsy, from the show Absolutely Fabulous. We were going get a girl kitten and name her Patsy. But we met our little boy and decided to get him, and he seemed to like us as well. So I suggested that we name him Paddy, similar to Patsy and kind of Irish. But Chris didn't like that and suggested Seamus. We tossed around another couple of names, but eventually came back to Seamus.
