We just moved to Texas about a month ago, into a 60 year old house that we're fixing up. It's an old pole and beam house- and it's like two feet off the ground. Well, there isn't anything around some areas of the bottom of the house, so animals and such can just come and go as they please. We have three indoor kittys and my husband won't let me take in any more. But yesterday I was walking out to my car and saw two kittens run out from under it. I opened my hood (to make sure no kitty had crawled into my motor) and then I left. This morning there was one of the kittens from yesterday sitting on my front porch. I really don't think they have a home- and I think they're probably feral. I want to make them a little house outside and feed them, and get them neutered/spayed, and give flea treatment. Is this the right thing to do? Or should I just take them to a no-kill shelter? I mean, my husband WILL NOT like me feeding them. I always get told how we're not the kitty soup kitchen and stuff. And I understand how we have three cats and that's enough. But if the kittens stayed outside (it's getting warm now) then they would be happy, fed and feral, and I would have a clear conscience. What to do???

If they are that young they may be adopable. I would suggest a no kill shelter so they can be properly looked after medically of course, fixed, and become indoor cats and live a longer happier life.

Of course, if they don't like being indoor cats.. that could be a problem.

I'll move this to Caring for Strays & Ferals.

If you can't care for the little ones yourself, see if you can find a rescue group that specifically states that they work with ferals. They will have the knowledge to socialize the kittens and find them homes, or maybe help you socialize them and act as a foster.
(Perhaps hubby would be more willing to help if you had the assurance from the outset that they would be adopted into another home and they wouldn't stay forever
)

I hope that you can find a feral rescue group to help you out. And for sure, to get mama kitty TNR'd. And hopefully your hubby will come around. Now that it's getting warmer, all the critters will be coming awake, including snakes & gophers- which cats kill & eat, so maybe hubby will appreciate having them around more. Good luck!! Susan
