Ive mentioned previously that we are moving to a condo/apt. in a week. I just got off the phone with landlord informing him about Conner. He had the nerve to tell me that I need to declaw him. I told him he was well behaved, but he was insistant,,well, I told him that that wasnt even an option, the cat's keepin' his claws, darnit!! I explained to him the risks and disadvantages of declawing cats and where I stood on the issue,,he still tried to tell me that it is the best way if I want to keep him. I AM NOT declawing him, so I told him that we would look for another apt. and would be needing the deposit back,,then he was pretty quick to slow down and find some other option. This guy hates cats and thinks theyre dumb. He is a dog person. SO, we are still moving in, we really like the apt.,,,but I have to pay a $300 fee for Conner. Not a deposit,,but a flat, nonrefundable, FEE. Gosshh,,,what a lovely day. Just thought I'd rant a little,,thanks for letting me. I was just really annoyed at someone trying to tell me the benefits of performing an unnecessary surgery on my baby,,when this guy isnt a cat owner and knows nothing of cats.

Sorry your plans have to change. You know this already, but you did the right thing. It's a lot better than paying the $300.00 to that oxygen waster!

This guy sounds like a particularly bad breed of scum. Way to hold your ground!

Glad you didn't give in to that jerk!
You're going to love your new apartment, and so is Conner!
If it make you feel any better at all, the fee for my place for Sierra to live here was nonrefundable also...

2. Kick him in the balls
and tell him to get his dog declawed and get the dogs breath cleaned

Why? He backed down when she supported her stance. And a pet deposit is normal, so is a damage control fee. No matter what, some people just don't like cats.

That's what I don't get. I saw a plaque that said "People who don't like cats must have been mice in their previous lives."

Well just pity the people that don't like cats, but don't hate them. That is a lot of negative energy put out for nothing. Some people you can't change. I have met people who drown cats, run them over, I talked to an 11 year old who crucified a cat, you will never understand them, just be happy you aren't in their company.

i never really understood the cats being declwed thing...I have heard that rule twice so far......I mean if a cat is a scratcher, isnt he just going to destroy your own furniture, and if he does destroy a part of the apartment, that isnt yours doesnt the security deposit cover it....eeek..I dont know it doesnt make sence to me..........in our old place in gloucester we had to pay 30$ extra a month for doofuys, and emmet....mabby we smuggled in.....lol...and we lived there a year...so thats 720$...ouch, and they didnt scratch anything but our furniture...ouch

That's such a great attitude.
I TRY not to hate. I don't hate people because they don't like cats, but only by the grace of God and a LOT of prayer could I NOT hate the ones that hurt them.

Good for you! You stood up to the guy, and are getting the condo anyway. The nonrefundable fee is a bummer, though. I can see the point of a refundable deposit, because some cats do manage to ruin carpets with their claws, or strip the wallpaper off the walls (my cat's brothers' favorite hobby, and we have one wall with cork wallpaper covered with sisal scratching boards). If your cat isn't like that, why shouldn't you get the money back?

OK, let's be honest here. There are no such things as "refundable deposits". They say that, but you won't ever get the money back. I've lived in multiple apartments, and no matter what condition I've left them in I never see a dime back. And always end up owing them something else. At least he's being honest at the outset that it's a fee.
(That may not always be the case when renting from an individual, but when renting from a corporation, I've found that to be the case.)

Yeah, I have to pay rent for my cats, as well as the $250 "deposit". $30 a month for them. They can't work, I don't know why they have to pay rent.

Stevie, good for you for not backing down to this guy and standing up for your kitty and your beliefs!

Wow guys,,I guess I dont have it so bad with the 300 dollar fee. Some of you say you actually have to pay RENT for your cats also. That's crazy and I dont understand it either...I guess I can deal with the 300, but no way could I afford to pay extra monthly rent for the furball,,,sheesh!!LOL!!
