Hi everyone!!!!

I just made the switch from Iams

Originally i was going for filadae,...but the petshop guy told me to get

performatrin ultra.

Its a grey/red bag. Supposedly is a holistic nutrition source, with whole chicken, whole veggies/fruits and addreses Urinary tract care.

THe ingredients on the back say:
Chicken, Chicken Meal, Whole bornw rice, dried egg product, whole barley, whole rice, sunflouwer Oil stabilized with mixed tocopherols, Salmon Meal, whole flasxeed , alfalfa, cranberries, whole sweet potatoes, pea, carrots, blueberries, Spinach, apple etc etc....

The thing I am wondering about is that..thats a whole lot of veggies for an animal that is suppsoed to eat meat. The store keeper told me it was better the Filadae, because it had all that extra stuff in it?
Garunteed Analysis on the back states that there is
33.0% crude protein
19.0% crude fat
3.0% crude fiber

Also another question I had was, would it be better for the cats if i added chicken stock to the dry cat food mentioned above? I know , you are probably wondering why I dont just buy premium wet cat food, the problem is that I cant afford it right now. So I am looking for another high moisture good food alternative.

Thankyou so much in Advance

Ayesha

Hi,

Well, I'll let you do the comparison - here are the ingredients for Felidae:

Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, Brown Rice, Lamb Meal, Chicken Fat, (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Rosemary Extract), Menhaden Fish Meal, Eggs, Flax Seed Meal, Sun Cured Alfalfa Meal, Sunflower Oil, Lecithin, Nutritional Yeast, Natural Flavors, Linoleic Acid, Rosemary Extract, Sage Extract, Amaranth, DL Methionine, Taurine, Kelp, Cranberry Meal, Apple Meal, Probiotics, (Freeze Dried Streptococcus Faecium Fermentation Product, Freeze Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product), Vitamins A, D-Activated Animal Sterol Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Vitamin B12, Riboflavin, Niacin, Choline Chloride, Calcium Pantothenate, Folic Acid, Pyridoxine-Hydrochloride, Thiamin, Biotin, Amino Acid Chelated Minerals, Zinc, Manganese, Iron, Copper, Cobalt, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite, Bacillus Subtilis, Yeast Culture, Yucca Schidigera Extract.

Crude Protein is a min. of 32%, Fat is a min. 20% Fiber is max 2.5%...so the food the clerk had you buy has more fiber, more protein and slightly less fat

Comparing the ingredients, I actually do like the Felidae better, but the food you bought doesn't sound bad..it's just I think the comment was inaccurate by the clerk

LOL....It may also have something to do with the fact that the food i bought was slightly more expensive then filadae....and the down side is that the cats arent liking the new stuff very well...but then again...its only the first day..
Thanx tho

Avoid mixing in canned chicken broth as it usually contains onion which is toxic to cats. As to not being able to afford wet food for your cat, perhaps you should look at some lower cost wet foods, or cutting out something you buy for yourself...

I agree re the canned stuff...besides making it yourself takes no time at all, and you can use the oddest pieces of chicken - wings, backs, bones with a thigh, and get a wonderful chicken broth that will also be minus all the dang salt they put in canned chicken broth!

I'm a anti-high sodium human food products kinda gal

Hi there

SO I am assuming it is okay to put in home made chicken broth. Which is better for me becase my mom makes it in quarts for her home cooking anyways. And yes I am still feeding them wet food along with the better dry food. But the quality of the wet food isnt as great. That is why I came up with the chicken soup in the dry food idea.
Thanx all

Hi,
Just be sure your mom isn't seasoning that homemade broth with onions or garlic, as many do.

The other point to be careful about, soaked with broth dry food will spoil as fast as wet food, you will not be able to leave soaked food out for free-feeding all day. It will need to be pulled up after an hour tops.
