A little about myself. I have 4 older kids, 1 Golden ret. (working dog) 2 championship extreme persians. both of which are 17 months old. They have free run in our home. My problem is obvious, He shows No interest! She will pretty much bowl him over trying to get him to breed, And he walks away! I had one breeder tell me to cage them. And another tell me that he is not sexually mature as of yet? Anyone out there ever had a male cat NOT breed???This will be her 3rd heat.
Also she is a copper-eyed white, & He is a black smoke & white any ideas on kitten colors If it ever does happen? Thanks soo much for your time & have a wonderful night!
When you think you know all their is about cats, They throw you a curveball!

Well, it's possible that he just hasn't got the "bug" yet... give it time, perhaps try to confine them to one area. As for color, hard to say without knowing the background colors of the white one, as white isn't really a color... it masks most every color in the cat fancy rainbow.

As Ken said, it is hard to determine all color possibilities without knowing what recessives each cat is carrying, or as Ken also said, what color your solid white is masking.

However, you have two cats that are expressing three dominant color traits right off the bat. Namely, (1) non-albino white, (2) bi color, and (3) smoke (silver). For any of these to appear, one parent has to express the trait itself. For example, white kittens don't just "appear" in litters - one parent has to be white. To have silver kittens, one parent has to be silver or smoke (smoke being the solid [non-tabby] form of silver).

You have a good chance of getting white kittens, silver tabby, silver tabby and white bicolors, smoke, smoke and white bicolors, etc. If your cats are both carrying dilute, you can also get blue, blue and white, blue smoke and white, etc. If your white is masking red (she had a red parent) you could then also get tortie, calico, red tabby, etc.

It's a matter of learning basic color genetics (an invaluable tool in breeding) and studying pedigrees. In the meantime, you should probably consult your male's breeder with your questions - perhaps his father was also a "late bloomer" and the breeder could give some suggestions on what worked for her. She knows her cats best, and would probably know the best steps to take.

Best, Cathy

Thank you all for the welcome & the wealth of information, This site is wonderful! Well Kess still isn't showing any interest in Jillian...ARRGGHH! But that is ok, I'll just wait my time. I have a friend who said i could use her male for stud but I don't want to bring in another cat that could be sick or carrying nasty friends. Both of my cats have been to the vet on a regular basis & checked for breeding. I hope that doesn't sound snooty, I just want mine to stay healthy! I have also heard that if you don't have your female bred by a certain time it could cause her to get cysts among other things. That worries me since this is her 3rd un-mated heat. Thank you again everyone has been so nice & helpful and i appreciate it! Dawnde

Persians can be "slow developers" in the arena of sexual activity, expecially toms. Not all of them are, just some, my Rusty was, but he definitely made up for lost time once he got the "bug" as Ken put it!

I really hope he gets "the bug" lol sometime soon But perhaps it may be a good thing for them to be older before their first litter. I really appreciate the encouragement, A friend of mine said you have a male cat not interested & it made me feel like he was an alien...lol Anywhoo... You have some beautiful cats as well! Have a wonderful day! Dawnde

My friend has two male Orientals who are 19 months old, one is a neuter and one is whole, the neuter knew what to do when he was 8 months old and tried to breed a spay, the whole boy still doesn't know what to do. Hopefully with time he will figure it out.

Well, Now Jillian my female is a bit round and is pinking up a bit. Hmm, I am wondering if Kess did breed her when I wasn't around, she went quickly out of heat on day four. We have a vet appt soon. Thanks for everyone's time and information, will keep you updated! Thanks Again,

Sounds like your friend neutered the wrong one.

Hi everyone,

i have exactly the same problem. My male persian simply ignores my female persian (on heat). I'v tried pairing him with a friend's queen but he's ignoring her as well.

On the other hand, I think he's masturbating sometimes. He does that while kneading. I observes that his pelvis will be jerking while he kneads on all four paws. He will leave some wet patches on my blanket or my clothes whenever he kneads on them. After that, he will be licking his erected penis. Sometimes he will try to knead on my lap but i'll usually push him away and he will respond with a sad purr...

He also kneads like 3~5 times a day. if he's really masturbating so often, he must be sexually active but yet he doesn't respond to the females.

Any advice? thanks in advance

I know C&C's question has been answered so I ask you - how old is your male?

I have a male persian two years old in Oct. that still not breeding. I have him in a cage with a girl in heat right now and all he does is lick her. He won't mount her. I was told to try give him Tribulus terresris. Haven't tried it yet and would like to hear from others if it works and how much to give.

Some Persian boys can be very slow to mature, ask your mentors about the lines. How long has he been in with her for? I don't cage my cats, but my boy likes to spend a good half a day romancing his girls. He grooms them, cuddles them, chatters to them and then finally gets down to business.

Is it both their first times? It's often better to have an experienced cat with a maiden, or experience girl with a new stud.

Surely whoever told you about Tribulus can also tell you the dose?
