The best way I know of to prevent it is to not let her out at all. If you provide food, shelter and bathroom facilities, she won't be missing a thing by not being outside.....aside from cars, poisions, dogs, etc.

Yes, the best way to protect your new cat is to keep her in. I know that they cry to get let out, because they are used to wandering. You could fence in a place in your yard, and give her supervised outside playtime. My grandmother had a superstition of putting a light coat of Vaseline or butter on their front paws & let them walk around inside & when they lick their paws, they get the scent of the house recognized. I recommend checking the old threads in this site - just keep checking the older pages. By the way,"Hissy" is an excellent resource, and offers excellent advice about what to do with strays & ferals. Please keep us posted, also what is the new cat's name???
