A man is lying dead in a field. Next to him there is an unopened package. There is no other creature in the field. How did he die?

OK, let's see which of you gets to be the smarty-pants this time!! Which reminds me, that was my best halloween costume (I love word-play): I taped the candies called Smarties all over my pants. Hee hee!

Was the package an unopened parachute? (which means the guy literally plunged to his death)
