I hope this is the right board. I am just wondering how often do you guys buy new litter boxes and throw out the old ones? I was thinking once a year. what do you think?

There's no place like home
I buy new ones when they look grungy, which is probably about once a year. I always keep a spare one on hand to rotate the used ones. When I empty the litter, if it looks bad, I'll use the spare one in place of the grungy one, clean out the grungy one, and rotate that in the next time. But they all look bad after a while so I just splurge and buy new ones about once a year.

I wash Sierra's box with each litter change, and it never really gets in bad shape. If it did, I would replace it as needed. Now, she gets a new box about every other year.

Since I have 3 cats, I buy a new litter box once every 6 months.

I follow the 1 cat = 1 litterbox policy. A new cat or/and when the litterbox is in tatters, are the only times I will get a new one.

I have 6 litterboxes for 5 cats, one of which is a small one, a backup in my bedroom in case a cat get shut in there while my husband is asleep (he works nights). Everynight litterboxes get dumped, sprayed with bleach cleaner, and just enough litter to cover the bottom. When I go to Sam's club and buy 4 bags of 40lb cat litter I get some strange looks.

I have two cats and two litter boxes one of which has been replaced once due to the cats growing from cats to kittens. I do have my eye on a Litter Maid though just haven't gotten up the gumption to spend that kind of money on a litter box.

Other than that they just get replace when they get too grungy or broken. (Ie. My friend stepping on the dome.

Don't even bother getting the Littermaid. It's a waste of money, and you're better of doing the old fashion scoop and dump method.

My littermaid broke after two months. I could probably send it back to the manufacturer, but I don't. I just scoop.
